My dog has always been called “difficult” at his last vet. The employees at this office are so kind and gentle, my dog was calm and well behaved. They answered all of our questions and seem to care very deeply about their patients. It made a trip to the vet much easier and less stressful. Will recommend them to everyone!

Dr. Arnold is wonderful and went out of her way to figure out what was wrong with our Jasmine and her treatment plan! Her and the staff saved our Jasmine this year and we are so thankful for the wonderful care they gave her. They took care of our Bella until she passed which Dr. Hyatt assisted with, he even stayed over on the Saturday we needed him! Plus they take care of our shy wolf dog! Thank all of you for all you do for our furbabies ❤️

On Tuesday morning I noticed that our French Bulldog Spike was spitting up blood and little bits of something. I asked my husband if he had given the dogs bones and he said yes. He had just picked our steer up from the butcher on Monday and did what we have done many times and gave our Frenchies a raw beef bone. We won’t be doing that again.
Spike stopped spitting up throughout Tuesday and ate both breakfast and dinner perfectly fine. No change in behavior or bowel movements.
On Wednesday morning I went to let Spike out of his crate and noticed that sometime in the night he had spit up a bit more bright red blood.
I immediately consulted with Spikes breeder and she recommended I get an X-ray just to be on the safe side. I was reluctant to contact Colonial Heights after what we went through with Odie (our other Frenchie) and his eye injury but the vet that fixed up Odie is a 35 minute drive from us.
So I called Colonial Heights at 0953. I was told to bring Spike in right away to get an X-ray. So I did. On our way home from dropping him off at 1032 I received a call from their tech stating that Spike was being combative (completely unlike Spike) and would need to be sedated to have the X-ray done. Anyone who has Frenchies knows that sedation is a big deal. So after asking what exactly that would entail and how much it would cost ($58) I agreed. It would just be an intramuscular injection that would be quickly reversed once the X-ray was done.
I waited and waited with no word. At 1400 I text Steve and asked why I hadn’t heard from the vet. He said why don’t you give them a call. So I did at 1406. I was told put on hold and then told that the doctor would be giving me a call.
Finally at 1450 Dr Trigg called me to inform me that Spike had a very large sharp bone lodged in his stomach that would need to be surgically removed. She didn’t believe he would be able to pass it on his own and if he did it would puncture his bowel. BUTTTTTTT THEY COULDN’T DO THE SURGERY until the following day! I would need to take him to the emergency vet. Yes, you read that correctly. DR. TRIGG WAITED APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS TO CALL ME WITH RESULTS. When I asked why she waited so long to call me she said that they only had two doctors there. Im confused as to why only having two doctors prevented her from picking up the phone in a timely manner to report urgent findings? Why when I called in the morning was I told to bring him right in for an X-ray if there wasn’t anyone there to relay the results?
I told Dr Trigg I would be on my way to pick up Spike. As soon as I hung up I called Ferguson Animal Hospital in Bristol and they said to bring him immediately in.
When I arrived to Colonial Heights to pick up Spike I was met with a $346.36 bill. $60 for a medical exam (I never saw a vet) $105.49 for sedation-intramuscular $232.49 for an X-ray (that I didn’t get results from for 4 hours) and $8.38 got medical waster disposal fee. (I was given a $60 credit for some points I had (never heard of points and was never told about them and still don’t know what they are). I did call while I was waiting for Spike to get out of surgery to tell them that I was told over the phone that the sedation would only be $58. I was asked if I wanted the difference as a credit on my account and I said “Absolutely not! I won’t be back.” I was refunded part of the difference on my debit card.
I got to Ferguson Animal Hospital at 1550 and they had him in surgery by 1600 and out by 1700.
All of that to say.. I am so so so thankful that my husband told me to call when I did. Had I waited any longer Spike would have had to go to our local emergency vet and his surgery would have easily been $7000+.
Ferguson Animal Hospital is the real MVP! Special thanks to Dr Hubbard for being willing to take Spikes case at 1600 when their hospital closes at 1730. Dr Hubbard was so straight f

We have been bringing our dogs to CHAH for 5+ years. Every vet and tech and staff member at CHAH is so kind, knowledgeable and helpful! We have one problem child and they always work him in as soon as possible or provide us what they can out of office/over the phone. I'm so thankful for them!
