BUYER/SHOPPER BEWARE!
My sister and her soon to be fiancé have been ring shopping the last few weeks and came here because this place has had a LOT of family business and history. My dad bought my mom her wedding set here in 1994. And my grandfather has purchased many pieces for my grandmother here prior to that. Over the last several decades, our entire family has patronized this local business buying rings, bracelets, necklaces and all sorts of simply jewelry repair. My friend, no more.
So my sister thought it would be really sentimental to get her ring from here. The associate that spoke with them treated them with disgust and told them to go elsewhere. It’s one thing to suggest there might not be anything at your business within someone’s price range. It’s an entirely different story to tell someone their money is no good here and put them down.
It’s 2024. Susan needs to remember most people are 1-2 degrees of separation away from an influencer, YouTuber, celebrity, etc. One bad review online from someone with a platform would shut this store’s doors for good. Hendersonville is a very very small big town. Keep treating people ugly and see how far that takes you.
By the way, I hardly ever leave reviews. And I never leave bad ones, it’s just not my style. But this incident deserves to be publicized. You don’t belittle and disregard people. It’s not kind.

Extremely rude and unwelcoming experience. I literally walked in to ask about a ring I currently own being sized down. Pretty sure I was communicating with the son (reasonably kind yet not the most welcoming nor thrilled about my potential business). Then, David McKenzie interrupts and begins to put his 2 cents in on the size of my ring. I was there literally less than 2 minutes asking practical questions - in a very kind and happy about getting my ring fixed manner. And out of no where, David McKenzie says, “You can take your business else where if you’d like.” Ok? Why he said that in a condescendingly tone when all I asked was the price, is beyond me? I gladly took my ring and walked out.

If you buy jewelry from David McKenzies I would absolutely recommend taking it literally ANYWHERE else to have it worked on/resized/stone placed. My Fiancé purchased my engagement ring at the Gallatin location, it was gorgeous at our engagement. We take it in the next day to have it resized since they had it in a 6 and I am a 4.5. No big deal, should be easy. We drop it on Monday, they tell us Thursday/Friday it should be ready, the jeweler is out of town. We pick my ring up on Friday at lunch and it is RUINED. The platinum band has teeth marks from the clamp, the band has heat damage and is warped, the diamonds have heat damage and are crammed back in to their settings holding on by a thread. They offered to send it to a custom jewelry maker to have it "fixed" but even he couldn't fix it. He was going to have to remake the whole ring. We are grateful that they refunded our money but as everyone else's reviews state, do not have any work done on your jewelry here. This could have been a completely avoidable situation with a competent jeweler, and it really ruined our first week of being engaged. Any bro with a Hobart welder could have done a better job.

I should have checked the reviews before coming to this place. They are a joke. The employees have the personality of morticians, and I think morticians actually have a friendlier demeanor. I brought my ring to be sized, and then I get a call saying at first that they can’t size the ring because of the type of ring it is, and then she proceeds to ask me to come in to have my wife’s finger measured so that she can size the ring. So I ask her, can you size it or can’t you size it? And then she says she can’t size it. It’s amazing to me that this place is still in business. They must be hemorrhaging money. Waste of time.

Really wish I can leave 0 stars…… I should’ve never went in there in the first place. I needed the chain of a necklace that is very dear to me to be fixed. Obviously it’s not worth a lot of money but to me…… it’s a very precious glass butterfly necklace that was given to me by my great aunt who was like a grandmother to me!! Anyway, the lady who helped write out the details was nice but the jewelry maker…….. acted like she could care less about a necklace and didn’t offer to tell me that the gem fell off…… I was stunned and surprised when I got it back and she came out of her little area and was really rude to me!! She treated me like the necklace is not worth it…… and she said she would offer to fix but it would probably break. I told her “Nevermind….. thanks!” The lady who helped me the first time (I think her name was Beth?) was very nice!! But the other one……. Wow!! I will never come back there again!

David McKenzie has the personality of a mortician. Stopped by randomly to get my watch battery replaced. Never heard of the store before. Had been doing yard work and my “work watch” (a luminox leatherback turtle ~$300) had stopped. Immediately got an unwelcome vibe as soon as I walked in. Almost like, “what are you doing here?” Granted I was dressed like I had been in the yard. Wouldn’t replace the battery bc I had opened the back already. I ask him if they did any watch cleanings on high end pieces ( I have some Tudors and Omegas) and before I could finish he interrupted, “Rolexes only.” I told him the Tudor has the same movement etc but really just needed a cleaning not repaired…same dry response before I could finish. Asked if he had recommendations on where to take my luminox; “Send it back to Luminox” was his response! Fuq that old man and his stale store. Hopefully earth doesn’t have to suffer this old man or his business much longer. All these bad reviews are aren’t shocking..

I was told I bought a rose gold necklace with diamond stones. Turns out the stones are not diamonds and the necklace was rose gold plated! I’ve gotten the stones tested at 2 different stores and both came back that were not diamonds. I’m extremely upset and when I called to speak to David about it.. he was very unprofessional and rude. He does not want to deal with people. Definitely doesn’t need to be working with the public. He does not have any personality. His workers are not knowledgeable about their products. Please do not shop here.

I went there once to get a ring cut off that was too tight. It went ok. Was going to go back to get some work done on another ring, but after reading all of these poor reviews, I’m going to look for other options.

I really hate to give such a bad rating, but I would want to know about this if I were a potential customer. The one star is for the fantastic saleswoman who bent over backwards to help me design a custom ruby necklace and for the quick repair they did of another chain I already owned. In regard to the necklace, I'd give zero stars. The ruby I bought was tiny but in good condition; I examined it before it was placed in the pendant. When I got it back, though, the setting was closed crookedly around the ruby. I thought it was an oversight, so I took it back to be fixed, and in two days I was called back in to pick it up. Yet it still looked odd, even though it was no longer crooked. I couldn't tell what the problem could be, even with my magnifying glass, but several family members thought it looked strange, too. I felt uncomfortable taking it back again, so I took it to another jeweler and asked for help. Even though I didn't name the DM store, the other jeweler guessed immediately which one it was and told me he got a lot of unhappy customers from there. Not more than 20 minutes after I dropped it off to be reset by the new jeweler, he called to tell me that the reason the necklace looked strange was that the ruby was chipped. Presumably it happened as it was being mounted at DM. The setting looked odd because it was covering the damage. I wouldn't trust this store again for anything.

Worst experience ever. I took a family heirloom ring (from the 1920's) in to be appraised. Was told that it was not real, "probably CZ", not even gold, and not worth an appraisal. Took the ring to TWO local competitors and they both stated that DM was WRONG. It was in fact, a great quality diamond, white gold, and high value because of the antiquity and the quality. Will NEVER do business EVER again with them.

If I could leave zero stars it would be better. These are the rudest bunch of people I have ever done business with! I had a 3 Ct diamond ring sized that took a month to get sized. Every time I called to see if it was ready the old man said “ it’s not done yet , why would you assume it’s ready? Did someone call you and tell you it’s done! When it’s done we will let you know!” Then today my husband took a couple bracelets in the see if they were real and get them appraised. And the old woman with purple eyebrows was super rude and told him “ Well this ones silver , this one’s gold , slid them over to him rudely and said the gold ones worth about $400. People listen..if you want rude and poor customer service..this is the place to go. I don’t appreciate being treated this way by anyone much less by a place your trying to give your hard earned money to. I will never do business with this particular jewelry store again! Don’t waste your time. From all the reviews I’ve just seen on here this is just the way these people are, it’s a shame..
