Update
Prices and marketing strategies are getting a little out of hand as I hate to read the small print of everything I buy and end up paying alot more than expected and holds up the shopping lines when a price has to be corrected.

Worst grocery store in the TRI-Cities. Food City is low quality anyway, but this is the worst. They still haven’t figured out how to keep their shelves stocked. Their produce is often bad, and their meat selection is subpar at best. This is especially disappointing because they claim to be “Picky about Produce” and love to advertise having real life butchers. They need to learn to pic better and actually have a stocked meat department. Never again will I patronize this garbage establishment.

Me & my husband were there tonight just a little while ago to use the coin star thing. Once we collected our ticket and headed to the customer service area to get our money for it, as we proceeded in that direction the manager Micah was walking towards us and he said the customer service center was closed, and as he went to walk by us my husband had the ticket in his hand and this guy never stopped or nothing he just kept on going, but as he met my husband in the middle he just very matter of fact snatched the ticket out of his hand and kept on walking!! He proceeded towards a checkout lane. He than cashed out our ticket and handed me the money and seriously just walked off. No have a good night or anything he was extremely rude and just terrible customer service.. not to mention the fact that the service center isn't supposed to close until 10pm, well as I was standing there waiting for our money was when I realized it was 9:49pm. So therefore in the time he snatched the ticket out of his hand and told us the center was closed it had to of been roughly 9:45pm maybe a min or two later.. & you know I don't really leave reviews very often, because you never know what someone is going through. & I am the last person on earth to judge anyone. It's okay to not be okay. However, I have 10 years customer service experience, & about 7-8 of those have been in management. From shift lead up to GM, so I can level with him on certain things. But never can I level with just flat out being rude just because your having a bad day/night. It costs $0 to be a decent person and to treat others with respect and kindness !! The way he snatched that ticket out of my husband's hand absolutely enraged me to say the least. And as much as I wanted to say something and let it be known what he did was just unacceptable I realized it probably wasn't going to be the best outcome. So I decided to get his name and leave this review. Although I didn't get the guys last name because his employees suddenly had amnesia and didn't know his last name. Which was appalling quite honestly... Y'all work with him, some of them on a daily basis, he wears the same name tag every day, yet no one knows.. wow. Do better Food City in Grey TN!! I seriously hope something is done about this.

Food city has been my go to for produce for 2 years now, since I live in gray. I have noticed the quality of fresh produce has declined greatly in the past year. I normally don't go for the specials, 5 for 7.99, but I've tried 3 different times to go this route. Cucumbers were old - bag of carrots spoiled on one trip, squash was at the point of spoiling if not used that day. Peppers, the same. Had to be used immediately. 3 tries...I am done. Taking my business elsewhere.

If you enjoy working as unpaid labor, this is the place. Filled a large buggy of groceries/3 bags heavy cat litter ($178). Upon check out, still NO CASHIERS WERE OPEN an hour after store opened. Several front employees stood around talking as they glared at me at self-checkout. As I was leaving, one who watched me scan my groceries told me to “Have a good day.” I told her, “I didn’t enjoy working here today.” She replied, “sorry. “
Edit: Visited again early morning and no registers were open. Managers and other staff stood around talking about their morning and exchanging pleasantries while I scanned a full buggy of groceries. I was slowed down 3 times due to scanner glitches that required employee override. A manager offered to open a register for another customer with a small amount of items but ignored me.
*****Food City will have competition August 21, 2024 when ALDI’S opens in nearby Boones Creek. Better quality produce and overall products that are MUCH CHEAPER. I will take my business there. *****

I generally avoid criticizing grocery stores for issues beyond their control, but I feel it’s necessary to share my experience here. This store is the only major grocery store in Gray, making it incredibly convenient for residents in the area. Unfortunately, the prices have skyrocketed, making it feel like they’ve hiked up the Himalayan mountains.
The staff’s attitude is another major concern. They come across as rude and indifferent, making me feel like an inconvenience whenever I have a question or need assistance. To avoid the confrontational staff, I typically use the self-checkout. However, I almost always encounter problems with the self-checkout machines, which are not due to any errors on my part.
When I need help, it’s a struggle to find anyone nearby, and when I finally do get assistance, it’s often delivered in a rude and hostile manner. This store is likely the worst in the Tri-Cities area. I hope this review is taken seriously and that improvements are made.

I just left this Food City location and wanted to leave a review. I have been shopping at food city for about 30 years now and NEVER have I encountered someone like I did just now. I wish I had gotten his name. I think he was a front end manager. He was the most helpful, friendly, and on top of things Food City employee I have ever seen! He is excellent and exactly how an employee/manager should be! I am impressed with his behavior and hope his management takes notice.
