Popped in 3/7/24 to return an item. The gal working the register was very sweet and kind. The return was quick and easy. She was knowledgeable about the store and was able to answer my question about airing up balloons in the future and how much is costs. Nicer than other DGs I’ve been in :)

I get a kick out of these people who write about the bland food and poor quality food. This is not a store for the socially elite. it's a store for people who are on a tight budget or know how to save money. The quality of food is no different than any other foods I bought anywhere else. But if you're a snob this is not the place for you.

This morning, my Mom visited the Kingsport Highway (off Witherspoon Dr.) location in Gray TN at around 12:15 PM. She has visited this location many times before.
However, this morning, outside the store, she saw a man curled up against the wall next to the door. She thought that was strange but went past the man (thinking maybe he was homeless) into the store and got her few items.
She then went to the checkout counter to see no one was there.
After being told by the customer behind her that he had seen someone go towards the manager office, my mom went to go look for what she assumed would be the manager.
To her surprise, she saw the man that had been curled up outside the store in the office. Before she could even get to the door of the office, the employee in the office saw her coming and yelled at her "That's why there's a bell out there!"
He then came angrily to the counter and checked her items out while lecturing my mother to look for the bell and telling her that no one should be behind the counter at Dollar General because all the employees should be stocking shelves. He then started talking about how poorly all the other Dollar General stores in the area are run.
He then finished off by telling my Mom that dealing with people was the worst part of his job. When my mom said she would not be returning to this store, he thanked her and told her not to come back.
My mom told me she left feeling "accosted."
Not only should this employee be fired immediately, Dollar General should hire in his place a quality person that realizes that dealing with people in a respectful way is the core of their customer service job.

Maybe not the friendliest of the local dollar general stores but seemed to be clean, well stocked and well organized. I'll stop by again when I go through... Just to make sure someone isn't having an 'Off-Day'. Until then, 3 stars.

I wish people wouldn't look at my tattoos and stereo type me! Lady followed me around like I was stealing, as she watched me some black guy pushed a buggy full out without paying. They are able to keep the same staff the store is clean has a good variety of different things from diapers to motor oil the staff is friendly and kind the main thing is the one girl I see there on a regular basics has a disability but she's been there for a good while and does her job and is very courteous and the main thing to me is she stays there seems to love her job and I like familer

Blech! What can I say? It's a Dollar General like all the others. Poor quality goods, bland tasting foods, and high prices for yard sale items.
