I went for a short amount of time to view the dogs that they have and was pleasantly suprised to see the inventory. Most of their animals come with as much care as needed to take home but I couldn’t help but disagree with the prices for some. Also I wish that there was a rental or return system set up that would make it easier to return a dog if they got home and wasn’t a good fit.

Love it but they are kind of small. The staff are very helpful in helping with adoption. They will give you knowledge before you purchase so you can be sure so I did appreciate that. They will tell you to do your research first.

This shelter used to have the nicest employees. Several years ago.. Not anymore, I had to return my cat to shelter this morning due to a personal matter. I was actually crying. The staff was all business. The male employee even told me that they were full. And that they do euthanize if an animal doesn't get adopted out. I used to volunteer at this animal shelter. I know how many cages that they have. And they only have 5 cats on their website too. Clearly, I was lied too. There is more than enough room for other cats. As they wait to be adopted out. Also, the website states that an animal will be euthanized if the animal is too ill, injured or aggressive. My cat just got all of his shots in May. I took all of my cat's paperwork including his rabies tag to GAS. He is in excellent health. He is only 3 years old. My cat is a very sweet and loving boy. The male employee and two female employees were cruel. None of these employees said I am so sorry. It is going to be fine. Instead, I was immediately told about how GAS euthanize. How can people be so cruel! I am crying at the counter and telling them about my personal situation. I cried a lot when I got back into my car too. Clearly, I was very upset about this hard decision.

Absolutely incredible staff who seem to genuinely care about the animals, instead of people just caring about getting a paycheck. I adopted two animals from them recently and they are behaving EXACTLY as the shelter staff informed, not to mention the fact that they were already neutered and spayed with all the shots/vaxes, and even had gotten flea and tick treatment along with another months dose. All of that was for free, or rather included under the $50 adoption fee, which is an insanely low price for everything I listed. If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat, I can say with 100% confidence, that Germantown Animal Shelter is one of the best, if not THE best, in the Memphis area. They were kind, understanding of our situation, and very helpful. They even handled two excited young children's presence exceptionally. Nothing but positive experience.

Staff was unfortunately rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. I called asking about their intake policies (recently, I’ve been caring for an incredibly sweet and friendly stray cat that I fully vetted, vaccinated, and dewormed). I also said that she seemed uncomfortable outside in this brutal heat wave. Staff on the line directly replied, “First of all, that’s a feral. We don’t know how they do inside the home. Most don’t do well.”Um. Aren’t animal shelters supposed to be able to differentiate between strays and ferals? Or, if it weren’t so explicit, couldn’t he have asked more about the cat’s personality/degree of human friendliness? Isn’t the whole point of animal shelters to help strays/surrenders find loving homes? Felt like a door slammed on my face. Sad.

Friendly, competent staff in a nice facility. That being said, they still need you to go adopt. Right now, they have some of the cutest little kittens you've ever seen. They need forever homes and your home would be "purrfect!"

Nice selection of animals if you are looking for a big dog. The facility is very clean with minimal smell for a dog pound. I really wish people would realize just how big a dog will get after it is full grown. Puppies are very cute, but they are there to train them to be the dog you want it to be. It is not their fault for growing bigger. It is yours people. After visiting 2 different shelters, I realized that Pit Bulls are the most abundant at both shelters. Or some mutt with Pit in it. I recommend every person looking for a dog to adopt one. There are very useful and friendly dogs available anytime. I used to Rescue dogs myself but it was at the expense of a clean living environment so I had to stop. But I thought I would never want a big dog but my Boxer/Mastiff mix has proven to be a great dog. So please adopt. But only if you can afford a dog. They need periodic health care and food and water just like humans. Also like humans they require love and attention and they will reciprocate it tenfold if they get it. Nice clean shelter. Good job Germantown.
