We've taken our pets to Dr. Shelton forover 15 years. She is The Best Vet in this whole area. I tell everyone with pets to take them to Dr. Shelton for th very best Healthcare. Wonderful staff too.

The service is good the problem is there's only one vet so if you have an emergency you have to go someplace else. My 11 year old dog was barely able to walk and they had no openings. I had to bring him in to a crowded place in Johnson City, which was highly stressful. I've never in my life had that happen where my vet refused to see me on the same day. And now they won't adjust his medication since his last visit was to a different vet. If I want service I have to bring him back in to Unicoi so that he's considered to be under Unicoi's care. The problem is my dog weighs 100 pounds and it's an ordeal to bring him in.

Dr. Shelton and staff have always been absolutely professional, competent, and most of all caring. We now have our 4th dog with them and we couldn't ask for any better care. She is very realistic and cost conscious. She is firm about her personal limits but always has great suggestions for where to go if she doesn't provide the service. When we had to euthanize 2 of our dogs, she and her staff were awesome. With Abby, we were in to pick up medicine monthly. I was struggling with when the right time to say enough. She sat and talked with me and cried with me. Over 2 years with our dog with painful arthritis, crippling anxiety, and dementia, she stepped up treatment and always focused on her comfort. I have so many stories about the great care including dental and then referral to UT for specialist dentist. We feel like they love our dogs and care for our family.

Dr. Shelton and her staff are fantastic. We have been taking our cats there for about 20 years and have never been dissatisfied. When I lived in Knoxville I made the trip for my cat's exams. Live in J'bro now and drive from there. It's worth it to get this great care.

Towards the end of our old kittys life we were bringing her in here constantly. The vet staff was so gentle and wonderful and Dr Shelton was so kind and patient with us the whole time, every time. They were able to squeeze her in for “emergency” appointments on several occasions when she wasn’t looking any better. Losing her was a huge heartbreak in our home and the staff was an immense support during our hardest decisions. On her last day and her last visit, everybody was there for us and our Little. They took care of sending her to be cremated at Carolina Pet Services of Waynesville and got her ashes back to us quickly and in a lovely box.We had adopted a three month old kitten shortly before losing our old gal and took him in for his first visit today. Just like with Little, the staff was so sweet and gentle with our baby Pounce and got him all his shots and boosters in no time. This is the most affordable vet we’ve been too with by far the best care our kitties have ever received. It’s incredibly clean and comfortable.We’re so lucky to have Dr Karen and the Unicoi Animal Hospital crew so close to home. Having had cats my whole life I can confidently say this vet hospital has been the best vet experiences we’ve ever had.
