They really care about the animals. The volunteers that work there are very hard workers. The cat rooms are awesome to just go sit in and play with kittens.

We had an emergency situation with our cat on a sunday, she was pregnant, her water had broke, but no kittens were coming and she was bleeding all over the house. This went on for over 24 hours. Fearing our cat would die if this continued, I called 911 and was advised there was nothing -they- could do but I could reach out to the animal shelter, leave a message, and then they would reach back out to me as people where "in and out of there all the time." So I did this, I called, left a voicemail advising of situation, that we do not currently have a working vehicle to get her to a vet, and my phone number so that they could reach back out to me.
I felt a little reassured but this was misplaced sadly. They never called me back at any point, I was able to get a ride up to the shelter that following day at around 3pm we took our cat with us in hopes that they would take her and get her the help she needs, we were prepared to surrender her to them as all we cared about was that she was going to be ok. The people that run this shelter however do NOT want anymore animals regardless of situation. The woman at the front desk was extremely combative right out of the gate when we came in with a box in our hands, she immediately went and got another person who came out, we explained situation, and she proceeded to grill us as to "Why did you take her to a vet?" "Why did you not call up here first?" "Why didn't you get her here sooner?" We explained that we do not have a working vehicle at present and that even if we did, no vets were willing to work with us and that I did call but was not called back. She basically told us that it was our fault for not getting her to the shelter sooner and that they can take her but they are going to "put her in a kennel with barking dogs and screaming cats" overnight. I was a bit stunned at first but then realized that this is par for the course, shelters act like they want to help in commercials and online but the reality sadly is that they don't want to help, they don't want more animals, and they want to make it more difficult for those that do want them. If you have an animal emergency, don't put your hopes here. If you absolutely need a shelter, I'd recommend taking the extra trip to the washington county shelter.

We recently adopted a kitten from the Carter Co shelter. All of the times we gave been there, the shelter was very warm and clean for a shelter. I especially appreciate the care and love they provide for special needs animals. I know all shelters do the best they can, and this one is doing a fantastic job helping the animals! We will continue to support and make donations to this shelter!

We discovered 5 abandoned kittens and their mother, nearby. Hoping to save them, curb the population, and prevent them from starving to death-we contacted them on multiple occasions. They were less than helpful. They gave us the runaround between their facility and animal control. We ultimately just wasted time and gas to deal a a bunch of work ethically compromised "people", who couldn't care less. When retailers ask us if we'd like to donate: We roll our eyes, and grit our teeth, and tell them never again.

Excellent staff. I was there an hour before closing and decided to adopt around 15 minutes before close and they processed my application with a smile on their face. I felt welcomed and I really am happy with the state of their cat facilities. It’s a night and day difference from Washington County. The cats are mostly in different cat habitats and are easy to see and handle. Thank you.

I only gave 1 star cause the guy in the back where the puppies are was nice.. I will never go to this shelter again I don't know why you people are in charge of this place you'd think when you have a loving family who wants to adopt a puppy you'd say great but no just cause someone don't have a vet established doesn't mean there bad people. But you will allow us to adopt a older dog that's just stupid.. you'd think you'd want these animal's in a loving place didn't want a older dog my little girl was set on a puppy but no she had to leave there in tears cause your stupid policy.
