Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park offers a beautiful outdoor experience with a great mix of water and land activities. Visitors can enjoy white water rafting and kayaking on the rivers, suitable for all skill levels. The park also features stunning hikes and views across the mountains and Cherokee National Forest, making it perfect for nature lovers. The park is well-maintained, very clean, and generally quiet, especially during weekdays, providing a peaceful environment. The campground is highly rated, with sites like A8 located right near the river, offering a scenic setting. Campers appreciate the clean bathrooms, which include showers, and the regular patrols by rangers that ensure safety. The park has large, well-kept picnic areas with grills and fire pits at each campsite, and a sizable play area for children that is very clean and nicely maintained. Dogs are welcome as long as they remain on a leash. Although there is no designated swimming area directly at the park, nearby spots are available for swimming. The visitor center is helpful and staffed with friendly rangers, and overall, visitors find this park to be a peaceful, scenic, and enjoyable destination for outdoor recreation.
We just had the best time here. Every day (I think) at 1pm water is released from the dam and the shallow waters transform to perfect beginner level kayaking. I only stayed one night because my RV beeps when the battery runs down. This camp ground is primitive so no electrical hookups or generators allowed.

Nice little trail to walk the dogs. It's shaded in most areas of the walk. Make sure you have your poop bags. They do not supply them. And keep an eye out for snakes. You are in woods. And check yourself and your dogs for ticks....woods
