I was passing through on a 7-hour road trip back home from solo camping when I saw a dog walking along the side of a highway. Of course I’m not gonna leave a dog like that, so I got that sweet, muddy old lady in my car and took her here because it was closest place I could find. I explained my situation and a pretty woman with freckles told me they were at capacity and to call the sheriff’s office and get animal control to help. I totally understood, so I sat outside with the dog waiting on a call back from the man at animal control, while scrolling through Facebook to see if I could find anyone who was looking for her. Then that same woman came back out like she was mad at me and without even looking at me, said “well, we’ll have to euthanize another dog to make room for her but we’ll take her.” I don’t know why she was trying to make me feel guilty. I didn’t even ask them to take the dog, literally the only thing I did was sit there calling animal control like she told me to. That was such a horrible thing to say. Of course I started sobbing and asked if there was anything I could do to help and still without even looking at me she said “well if you would’ve put up a post that you found her that would’ve been helpful but you didn’t have time for that, so.” I didn’t even know what town I was in. Half the county Lost/Found groups were private but I still searched everywhere. I needed to get home but I sat there and did what I was told even though I didn’t know anyone or anything within hundreds of miles of that place… I don’t even live in that time zone. I was just trying to do the right thing. I know being at capacity isn’t an easy situation to be in. I know they’re all doing their best to help these animals. But I was too. I didn’t deserve that. [Attached is “Baloney” where I found her and where we sat waiting for animal control to tell us our next move.]

Had a great experience, they didn't have room for the dog we found in our yard. But they were very helpful with places to search for the owners. I am happy to say owner and dog have been reunited.

I adopted 2 cats from them a few months back and I have been fighting veterinarian bills for a while now to find out what’s wrong with them. The shelter told me it’s just an upper respiratory infection and I just now found out that it’s actually feline herpes and I was giving them the wrong meds. No wonder they weren’t getting any better. So just a little heads up to people looking for cats. If you get one that congested it’s probably not what they say it is.

The smell was almost unbearable when I first walked in. The cat room was to the left, so I'm assuming the smell was from there. The staff was very nice. These animals need loving homes. If you're looking for a pet, please look here. The people I went with adopted a beautiful, well trained dog. She is absolutely perfect, and you can tell she is delighted to have a family that will love and care for her.

I recently adopted a dog from FOCCAS/Cumberland Animal Shelter. At first, everything seemed good- shelter looked clean and people seemed compassionate and genuine. However, once we got her home, we discovered she had Kennel Cough. I took her to the vet right away. When I attempted to contact FOCCAS to ask them to cover the medical expense, since she came to us with this unknown illness, (not to mention that I had paid a very high adoption fee of $500, which I complied with because they told me it covered additional medical expenses for other animals in need), they ignored my texts and calls. I was somewhat shocked. It certainly shows a complete lack of ethics, as well as compassion for the animals they serve and people who are trying to do the right thing by adopting a pet in need.

I don’t want to deter anyone from rescuing an animal from this shelter, but be weary I adopted a beautiful cat last week who needed to be spayed before being released, and as soon as I picked her up one day after her spay procedure I noticed she was sick as well as recovering from being spayed. The cats must not be living in very clean environments because she was very skinny, with dirty paws and tail from cat litter, nose running, sneezing, coughing. I immediately drove her to the vet and got antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection. Thankfully we don’t have any other cats that we have to worry about getting sick in our home, but if you do and rescue from this shelter, be cautious.

I adopted here to save a dogs life. Found a dog and brought it home. The dogs paperwork says 2 treatments for deworming. However that night I spotted worms in her fecal matter! She continued to have very loose stools even after we treated her. That place is over. crowded with dogs and the place is a mess. No dog should be placed 4 to a small kennel and sleeping in urine and feces. The adopted dog has white fur that is now yellow and when I picked her up she ranked with urine.

We adopted a dog today. Great place. Amy helped us find the perfect one. I had looked at 9 dogs a few days ago. Brought my husband & our dog, back today, to meet my top 2.

It was short notice. My son and daughter in law had mentioned their desire to get a dog, several times.
Just a stroke of luck and chance, I was hoping to see a "Pit Bull," to possibly adopt. The picture of a dog named "Haus," described as a Pit / Lab mix, but what caught my eye was his color. A light tan / frosted brindle. Beautiful. He was already fixed, best guess of 2-3 years old.
I called my son and daughter in law into the room to see him.
My daughter in law called, and we headed straight there.
I wanted to make sure that he would get along with my 13 year old, full blood, "Blue Pit Lady." She was fixed around 4 years old, because of female problems. She never had a litter of puppies. Her puppies are all the grandkids and neighborhood kids...
They seemed to hit it off.
He has been here about three weeks now. He is a keeper.
I was prepared with the metal training collar and leash.
Even though his excitement of new owners and new friend "Sasha," I short leashed him and had no problem.
He has been worked with before. He just needs a little more guidance.
Starting this week, he should have free reign throughout the house.
The staff was helpful and pleased to see "Haus," find his new forever home.

Got my dog Ryker (Spankie) a week ago. I was so pleased and blessed to find a great dog to go with my family. Was looking for a companion for my dog Mystic. Ryker is a doll and so sweet. They took the time for myself and my dog to get to know one another. And made sure they were safe with each other.
