It was poorly lit, messy, and there was literally nothing on the shelves. You would think that it's proximity to a college campus (with massively overpriced food), that this place would want to make itself a good alternative, but no!

When this place first opened it was a valuable community resource. But that’s no longer true. They hire the most unqualified and incompetent people to work there and it shows.

Gotta be the most ghetto and overpriced DG I’ve ever been in. Employees were in house shoes and normal clothes. Very messy.

Located on Market and Seventh Street in downtown Chattanooga. The store serves the local population and is located near a bus stop. Inside is clean and orderly.

I was just wanting to let the public know , employees are standing in the front entrance and smoking marijuana. I can't believe the employees are allowed to do that and being illegal and also with the public walking back and forth on the sidewalk and everybody sees it and smells it

They are hardly ever open during their normal hours 8am-10pm. I have been waved away at the door many times in the morning, and even in the middle of the day. The store is always trashed and I have witnessed the staff cussing people out, face timing people while ringing customers up, and eating/licking their fingers while ringing people up. The staff are always out of uniform and look like they haven't bathed. This was a nice store when it opened, but it has gone down hill very fast.

Awesome customer service?

The cashier sees my arms full of items to buy, waits until I'm at the counter and then starts suddenly ringing up a customer that was "grabbing something and would be right back". I have other things to do, and there was no one walking around store or passed me as I was walking up.

Staying downtown at a hotel for the week and this place was a savior. Had everything I needed. Clerk was very friendly too.

My 12 year old daughter was recently in there with her friends shopping for nail polish. Some security guy tried to follow my daughter into the restrooom, and accused her of shoving things down her pants. When I called to complain I was told there is no security staff, and after a video review I was told my daughter and her friends were not in there. Sounds like a cover up. I went to complain in person and noticed there were bums outside and inside just browsing around, the bum outside demanded money to get something to eat. I told the staff about that and they said he sits there all the time and that I should just ignore him. If there are people with no money just browsing around, those are the people you should be watching, not my daughter and her friends, they are not thieves.

The staff is kind and they need to be paid more for the stuff they have to deal with. Lots of shady people come in and they've even been robbed at knife-point before.

So much stuff in such a small space. Great service from the staff. Very personable.

Convenient location to the hotel where we stayed. Since the hotel did not have water and snacks we trekked over to this location. Unremarkable selection, but what you would expect for a Dollar General. Friendly staff was a welcome plus!

They have a hard time keeping stocked.

After breakfast, I went here with my Caucasian wife and biracial one-year-old. With a one-year-old, you'll more than likely need to carry a larger handbag or a backpack diaper bag. My family and I made eye contact with the plain-clothed "security" guy with a camera as we entered the store. Neither he nor anyone else mentioned my diaper bag. I walked throughout the store with my wife and even walked back upfront to grab a basket with the diaper bag on my back. I made eye contact with the “ security” once more. He remained silent. My wife and son walked to one side of the store, leaving me alone to shop for other products on the other side of the store. I noticed the “security” following me around and wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy I was being followed. I made an effort to walk right past the plain-clothed "security" guy with a camera to confirm I was being followed. I was the only black male in the store, with a shopping basket containing maybe 5-10 items and a very expensive diaper bag on my back that my wife also uses as her purse. I was stopped by the "security" who told me I needed to take my bag upfront so the manager could store it behind the counter. When I asked why, he stated, "It's a store policy." He said I could ask the manager whether I could carry the bag around but there had been a lot of theft, so she would have to approve me keeping the bag, she replied no. There were several white women shopping with bags larger than my diaper bag. This was an extremely unpleasant and unsettling experience. We didn’t feel comfortable leaving our bag with a stranger. We would have respectfully declined and exited the store if we had been asked to keep our bag upfront when we initially walked by the “security” guy. They mentioned something after my family and I being in the store over 15 mins and after me being followed around. After talking to the manager my wife pointed out all the other customers( mostly white women) who had the same size or even larger bags and nothing was said to them. We dropped our basket off at the front counter and walked out. We will NOT be shopping here again. VERY unpleasant situation!
