The pre surgery interview lasted less than 10 minutes of which time Dr Paik came into the scheduling office. He pushed on my belly and simply replied “OK” and walked out. The rest of the time was spent going over an 8 pages preparation instructions. Of which less than 3 pages of the information related to my surgery. The other 5 pages was simply marked out with a line drawn across the paper. Neither the scheduler nor
the Dr. explained the procedure . At 2PM the day before surgery I began to drink the gallon of horrid stuff ( you know what it is ). By 4PM I had no reaction to the gallon of horrible water I had just drank. Again I called and got the same message, (we will call you back). At 6AM on the day of the procedure I canceled the appointment. After looking up Dr Henry Paik Md I find out that one third of his patients reviews give him a very low score. I rate Dr Paik and his staff a solid 0 out of 10. My overall recommendation is find another Gastroenterologist quickly.

They have been so great and empathetic while we try to figure out what’s going on with me. I cannot say thank you enough.

I had an excellent new patient experience. The male nurse was very kind and had a big smile and the provider, Jennifer was great at listening and providing solutions.

Would not trust them to have the ability to place a band aid on a boo boo.. I have been denied medical care due to several preexisting medical conditions that make it impossible to wear a mask or face coverings. I during my 1st visit with the staff and Doctor explained this, the told me they had no issue with this. This past week after talking with the nurse at the Chattanooga Endoscopy center, where a procedure was scheduled. I was told I would not be permitted to enter the facility without a face covering . Mask mandate have been lifted. I did explain to them again, I can not due to several pre existing medical issues can not wear a mask. So I canx the appointment and contacted the scheduling nurse and ask for other options and about test results form blood work and ulta sound completed. The letter was insulting and the person drafting made it read as I am willfully defiant about not willing to wear a mask . No one listen to anything even the test results they read to me where off for previous labs. Trust in there medical abilities is gone.

I don’t appreciate the immaturity at the front desk, which easily turns off other clients. One thing to remember, even with a doctor’s office, is that no one is above professionalism and a high level of customer service. After checking in for my first appointment, and having met my complete out of pocket, I went in from work after accidentally leaving my debit card at my desk. Rather than even providing some respectable customer service, the front desk asked me to pay $56 up front regardless, later to try and intimidate me into leaving. I called the day before and got in the next day for an appointment, which tells me they don’t have a high need of clients anyways. It was an empty waiting room. The front desk lady, with blonde hair, was very blank and apathetic. She turned me off to their practice for good, regardless if the actual doctor was high rated. When I found a Care Credit card to use, the front desk worker wasn’t very friendly - she took my card, then she unknowingly talked about me behind the glass to her peer about me having a “payment method,” in a very rude manner. Not only this, but the next person to come in was actually asked how their day was and treated like an actual client. I was singled out, likely for my age. I wouldn’t recommend the office, especially for college age kids nearby.

Dr Sommer is awesome and a great doctor. I recommend her highly. Her staff is average to slightly above average. If you go here, be ready to have a lot of discrepancies and contradicting billing issues. I had at least 5 calls from billing prior to my procedure and each of the staff members I spoke with told me a different amount I would have to pay for the procedure.
I never received a bill after my procedure and my online profile with the office said all bills were paid in full but when I returned over a month after my procedure for the follow up visit I was told I had a $220 outstanding balance (after paying A substantial sum already).
Also, check your online profile often because that is the only place they let you know about things. I didn’t know I had been prescribed medicine until approximately one week after the prescription was sent because I was never made aware of it until I checked my profile. I still haven’t talked to a human being about what my prognosis is and what I need to do to improve it... but it’s written in Medical terms (not plain English) on my profile... as if I know what any of the medical terms mean.

Dr. Sommer really cares about her patients. Does not rush through office visits or procedures. Takes time to explain things. Meaning diseases, disease processes, potential or probable causes, procedures, and treatment options. Most importantly, she takes the time to address patient concerns. Explains procedures (EGD & Colonoscopy) in depth before and after the patients procedure (her findings, recommendations, discharge and follow-up instructions). Makes sure patients and their family have all concerns addressed. Highly intelligent, caring, and compassionate MD. A true asset to the field of Medicine and Gastroenterology and to the people of the Chattanooga area. She deserves more than 5 stars.

Run! Seriously. Dr. Sommer was sweet and kind my first 3 visits. I thought she knew what she was doing, had lots of test ran and she was able to gain trust. She did a minor surgery that would have me down for 2 days. I ended up not being able to swallow for a month, when attempted to it caused so much pain screams came out that were a reflex. Im not a screaming person and have a high tolerance for pain. It was torture. I went to the ER and they gave me fluid and some meds to help until i could get to her office the following day. My husband went with me and we both explained what was happening. She said it made no sense and dismissed us. Fast forward to after the month of pain, and taking the pills she gave me to "heal" my stomach, i can swallow again but anything i ate or drank made my stomach cramp then came back up. I went to see her again after waiting 2 weeks to get in and losing 14lbs. She told me to keep taking the pills she gave me and come back in 2 weeks, dismissed again. This went on for 2 months. I kept having to go to ER who would give me nausea pills that would last a little while. Finally i went into her office in the cramping pain and vomiting in a bag tp show her the severity. She didnt even close the door. She said continue meds and dismissed me again. Finally i talked to my pharmacist bc i went in to pick up my refill. Now my hair was falling out, teeth problems, skin was weird colored, i had lost weight. I told my pharmacist what was happening....
.. IT WAS THE MEDS SHE HAD ME ON! He helped me with OTC stuff to detox, took a week of cramping and pain but slowly i could hold food again. When i and my husband called her office several times , we never got a response. Now i have about 4 ok days a week, and 3 painful ones from whatever she cut in my stomach. I had to give up most foods except for bland ones. Still NO response in 6 months except i did get 17,000$ in bills after my insurance covered 76,000$ from all the test and procedures. I went in originally bc i thought my gallbladder was going bad. After tons of test, none for my gallbladder, i now still have the same pain from before i went to her only escalated, extra pain and pressure, i cant enjoy foods i once loved, and im in debt. Never again. I have had some really good specialist and surgeries that have been good. Dr. Sommer is the first ive ever had do this and turn unprofessional the way she did. She has ruined my life. Ive have to base work, school, friends around my sick days and trying to eat is the most horrible thing for me now.

I love Dr. Sommer. She did a thorough work-up on me when I was admitted to the hospital. Then I saw her in her office and she listened to me and did more blood work up. She always spends time with her pts.
