McGhee Tyson Airport is a convenient, welcoming, and beautiful smaller airport. It is consistently described as clean and stress-free, with very short wait times and getting to the gate quickly considered normal. Security is fast and courteous, and the staff, including TSA and the kind bus drivers for parking, are friendly and helpful. Parking is easy, affordable, and close to the terminal. Some downsides are noted, particularly for late flights, as most terminal amenities like food and shops close by 8 PM. There is also a specific complaint about night flights sometimes sitting on the tarmac on arrival, described as a disconnect and an inconvenience. While car rental is usually very good, one experience was terrible with a smoky, problematic vehicle. Overall, it is seen as a simple and enjoyable airport that makes traveling in and out of Knoxville a pleasure.
