What a great find this place was for us! My daughter and I brought her three children here, as they had seen a billboard or sign about it, and they were so excited to do some "gold mining." It was actually panning for gold, but they had fun finding little bits of gold for themselves. The two attendants we had were so great with the kids; they listened to their questions, and answered them with good information that wasn't "over their heads." The oldest child (8 years) absolutely loved the tour through the mine; the 4-year-old enjoyed it; the 6-year-old did not like being underground, even though there are lights on the ceiling/walls all along the way, so I ended up going back to the the entrance with him. They have a really nice gift shop, with a little bit of everything, from coffee mugs & t-shirts, books & games, to stones & rocks and decorative household items crafted from the natural minerals (rocks). And we all loved the hand-crank penny-smashing machine; the kids really liked choosing their own picture to be on their penny, and we got penny albums to keep them in. We will probably be back again next year, as this stop was a high point for our crew!

We walked in for a gold mine tour and panning with a 13, 11, and 8 year old. The tour was great for our older children, but our youngest didn’t make it through the first stop in the mine. The mine was set up for a haunted house and this was not indicated on a sign or by the person we booked with at the counter. We would not have chosen to visit this time and were disappointed by the lack of communication up front (a skeleton bathing in a mining car with blood and plenty of other gruesome content seems like pertinent information for families with children of any age).
That said, all of us enjoyed the panning experience and our kids are all happy with their vial and specks of gold! I recommend coming at another time if your children are sensitive to scary content.

Our family of 7 had a great time here last week! We ended up joining in with a school class trip on a tour and the tour guide did an excellent job of including our family into the tour. He let us stay back an extra few minutes to get a few great family pictures. He was interesting and knew a lot about gold mining. He really enjoyed the kids asking questions. Then we did some gold panning. It was a really fun family activity for all ages. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I did the 4 hour mining trip. Wow, what a great time. Started with an easy walk up the hill to the dig site where we were given instructions about finding gold. Then we dug, sluiced our dirt, dug some more, sluiced, dug, you get the idea. Then the guide helped us clean the sluice and pan out the gold. We found about 24 gold flakes in the end.
Great day!

Joe was our tour guide and he was amazing! He had plenty of knowledge and facts to share. He was able to answer the questions the group members had and was very happy and cheery! He even kept it pg for my daughter under 10 and was still able to tell us the story of the place! It was such a fantastic time! We did the gold panning, and it was pretty fun!!

We had such a wonderful time and got to bring our dog Honey on the tour too! The mine was such a great tour and we leaned a lot. We had a blast panning for gold and got some gold leaf too! Everyone was so helpful and kind especially Lizze. Everyone was very knowledgeable about the mine and you could tell they believed in preserving the mine’s history! It is so close to a lot of other great attractions too. There is a great gift shop too. It’s a must do and family friendly!

Panning is a joke really, they give you pan with very little pay dirt in it and when you pan you find gold leaf gold that has been put in the pay dirt, when you pan for gold you expect to get even a small nugget type of gold, not gold leaf. Very disappointed in this experience, gold panned in Alaska and we got little nuggets, not worth much but it wasn’t gold leaf.

The tour of the mine was interesting and the guide was very informative. This was the perfect activity for my two boys (7 and 9 years old). The mine tour and the gold panning were accessible for my son whose leg is currently in a cast. We didn't find very much gold while panning, but our boys had fun doing it.
The store is a great place to buy some rocks. Very nice rocks at reasonable prices.
We were glad that we visited.

Very interesting, you don't realize the working conditions until you see it and again...I would have just liked to search for gold in the stream, a nice experience

Really great tour! Got to pan for gold and found a few flecks I got to take home.
Very friendly and PATIENT staff. Tour was about 45min to an hour, at certain times of the day, so call in advance to find out the schedule if you don’t want to wait. Not wheelchair accessible/ADA compliant. Vending machine outside with soda. Cute gift shop.
