If you are doing a Laura trip, there is no more ideal setting than this historic property. The hosts were friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about Laura. I got very used to the lifestyle on our trip. Coffee on the sunny enclosed porch, breakfast in the charming breakfast room, and at the end of the day tea in the parlor. The Rose Garden room was beautiful and for someone who likes pink, perfect.Walkability: Yes. All in town Laura attractions and restaurants are within a 5 to 10 minute walk.

This is one of the coolest places I’ve stayed at. This is a very old, beautiful home that’s very much alive and well. Each room in the home is themed, giving it even more of a unique touch. The home is not short on character by any means.I’m a travel healthcare worker and have been here from January 2023 and will have spent 5 months total before I leave. Since my arrival, I have gotten to stay in several different rooms, spent hours on the beautiful front porch sipping on coffee, and have enjoyed some amazing breakfasts. The owners have been awesome hosts and have quite a sense of humor.Definitely stay here if you decide to come through the area and they have availability. You won’t be disappointed!

Such a lovely stay! Very comfortable and peaceful. This would be a great place for a retreat. Enjoyed a cup of tea on the expansive porch. (Coffee bar available 24/7) Breakfast was made to order and so delicious. Very friendly people, too.Japanese Garden Room was nice and on 1st floor. Bathroom/shower is like a stall with a 1/2 wall. Not an issue unless you’re super private.

This is the perfect bed and breakfast spot in this town! It's well appointed and charming to say the least. Rob and Eric are lovely hosts and very accommodating. The location is perfect too. You can walk everywhere from the house as its location is central to the sites in town. I would highly recommend this place while in De Smet, SD.Safety: Quint small town.

Lovely traditional bed and breakfast in a quaint, safe town. We stayed in the Japanese room which was on the first floor and had a private entrance to the relaxing front porch. Owner is a tour guide for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Society. Breakfast was served with candlelight and background music from Pa’s fiddle. This is without a doubt the best lodging in the area.

We have been here twice, once with just myself and husband and once with our young son. It was a great stay, they are so kind and friendly and truly go out of their way for their guests. We will for sure be coming here again.

Great place to stay while hitting all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder sites. This home is even part of the history as it belonged to Banker Ruth! The hosts were very friendly and super knowledgeable and pointed out places to go and see that aren’t on the map. We stayed in the Americana room and the beds were very comfortable. We also enjoyed the breakfast. It was a great way to start our morning. I highly recommend staying here when you are in De Smet.

We stayed there for two nights to enjoy all the Laura Ingalls Wilder sites and had a fantastic time. We had both the Japanese room and the American Medley room and both were comfortable, spotlessly clean, and attractive. Despite the age of the house, the plumbing is top notch, as is the heating/cooling. I loved having the coffee/tea bar at my disposal, and the breakfasts were great. The hosts are really fun and very knowledgeable about the Ingalls family and DeSmet in general--they pointed me to a few sites not featured on the typical maps. A great stay!

Stayed here two nights while touring the Laura Ingals Wilder sites. Stayed in the Rose Garden room which was beautiful and very comfortable. Excellent location just a few doors down from the Ingals home. The hosts, Eric and Rob, knew the history of the area very well and were very gracious. Breakfast had lots of options and was delicious. Don't skip the Wilder Museum tour -- well worth the time. Highly recommend this B&B.

Ok bed and nice water pressure but that's it. Woke up to screaming kids (not mine) and egg shells in my breakfast. No thanks
