24 Mt Rushmore Rd, Custer“With my car, I was able to calculate it almost perfectly- from my apt to Mt Rushmore, I could make it on a tank, and with 20 miles to spare. Thankfully, those 20 miles were able to get me back to the town of Custer, probably the most bustling city I saw during my 364 mile trip to MORU. With that being said, you may want to do your research before you go, since towns are few and far between- thankfully I didn't run out of gas, especially where banjo music plays (hell, that was my first time in SD and I didn't want to make it my last known location). There are a few gas stations scattered around the town of Custer, but you can tell, the closer to the action, the more crowded they are- especially with RVs. Thankfully, I went a little out of the way (when I say a little, I mean 2 blocks past where I needed to go), and ended up at this Sinclair. The store looked like it was from the 70's (hell yea), but I didn't go inside. I did see an older lady behind the counter (I am pretty sure she had a minimum of a shotgun behind the register), and I didn't want any trouble, so I just filled up, and peaced out. The octane is back to normal here (87/89/93 compared to the lower numbers in CO), and the windshield wipers were actually filled with fluid, that was nice. The parking lot is big enough for rendezvous or family reunions, but again, I cannot comment on what was inside. My new choice for gas in the town of Custer.”

“Stopped in after driving Iron Mountain road and Wild Life Loop. Grabbed a pre-made sandwich that wasn't too bad. Had a good assortment of food options for a small place. The young lady behind the counter seemed a tad overwhelmed, but was so very sweet. I was almost overwhelmed for her. It was insanely busy and every time the door opened it made this obnoxious ding dong sound. That's not great for customers and employees who have Sensory overload problem.”
