We had a great time at Lake Poinsett. The only down side was the blue green algae bloom. That subsided within a day. The park was clean. The park was fun for the kids.

Beautifully maintained state park with gorgeous flowerbeds, grass and trees. Camp Sites have good shade. Park is very clean. There is a very nice, large marina. Beach is accessible, but very rocky. Wear shoes. Lake is quite large.
Playground: Just passed by the playground, but it looked clean with nice equipment.
Restrooms: Restrooms are clean. Showers are pretty nice for a campground.
Dog-friendliness: Did not bring a dog- but saw many people with dogs.

Love this campground! Gorgeous, spacious, beautiful sunsets, nice people and excellent swimming beach! We stayed at five campgrounds as we traveled north last week. This was BY FAR the best! This is an awesome campground! The women's showers could use a good deep cleansing. But, otherwise this campground checks ALL the boxes! We will for sure be back! FYI - we were driving a one-ton truck pulling a 45 foot fifth wheel toy hauler.

We stayed in Campground 2 and it is great, well protected campground. Very clean and well organized! Camp hosts were amazing and even helped us with a camper issue. Would definitely recommend for a stay!

Good for quick visit, camping, boating and fishing!
Only about 30 minutes ride from Brookings you can do bunch of activities that is applicable to the whole family in Lake Poinsett.
There’s playground for kids and you can just swim on the lake. There are restrooms on many spots. Also good for picnic and barbecue!
There’s also fantastic disc golf spots, beach-volleyball court for some extra fun. Check the state park website for camping availability.

The "beach" by the camping sites is just big rocks to prevent erosion, but there are swimming beaches nearby. The water is very clear and wildlife is plentiful. There are plenty of fish in the lake, lots of seagulls and pelicans and a beaver swam past our campsite this morning.
Restrooms: The campground has both vault toilets and modern bathrooms with showers.

We never camp in the lower area by the water. WAY too crowded down there, we camp up top site 54 - 82 big sites. To improve camp ground put a driveway through the trees so we can get to upper sites and NOT drive the whole loop.
Restrooms: Great showers, clean bathrooms, LOVE them!

Nice state park but the swimming beach has gravel instead of sand.
