Purchased a new vehicle and needed to make adjustments across existing vehicles within my policy. Stephanie took my call and was very thorough and professional throughout the entire transaction. She processed the total policy update in under 10 minutes and provided me all of the documentation I needed for financing and proof of insurance. More importantly, she was able to provide options with respect to covering dependents, explaining the pros and cons of each option. The customer service provided by Stephanie is a reason I continue to be a long-term State Farm customer.

To start, my experience with home insurance through this office has been terrible. The communication from the agent has been beyond sub-par. Any time I call I am told that the agent in charge of my home insurance is “on the phone”. I leave a voicemail and never receive a call back. Emailing feels just as pointless. Every time I call the office I have to send multiple communications (email, voicemail, and calls) just to receive an answer. My second issue is that our home insurance is through Dover Bay/State Farm. So when I needed an answer about why our coverage was going to be suddenly canceled, I had to wait a week for my agent to return from vacation. Apparently only one person in this office is trained to deal with Dover Bay and nobody else in the office could help (or was willing to try). So, I sent an email and waited. Fast forward to the agent returning from vacation and my phone call with her (2nd one of the day AFTER a voicemail) sounded like my email was overlooked. I sent some documents to get my insurance reinstated and I was told that there would be a follow-up with this issue one week after our conversation. That never happened. I had to call to get answers. I left a voicemail (no callback), I called later that day and still could not get ahold of the agent. I sent out an email (no response). After sending out a second email later on in the day I finally received a response stating that everything was ok. Thinking that my issues were finally resolved I was willing to let this whole ordeal go until July 5th when I received a letter from Dover Bay stating that I now owe them more money and the due date for the payment is July 7th. At no point over the last few weeks was I informed that my premium could potentially be increasing. As of today (July 8th) I have contacted the agent multiple times (one voicemail and two emails) and did not get a response until about 2pm which stated that “I am still trying to get through to them” AND as of 5pm (closing time for the office) I have received no further communication to let me know that we were still waiting on a response from the Dover Bay team. My concern seems to be very time sensitive based on the letter that I received. So having to wait almost the entire work day for a single response is a bit ridiculous and every day that goes by puts me that much further behind as the insured. This office may have almost a 5 star rating, but my experience has been far below that.

We have been customers of Charles Chitwood State Farm for many years (at least 13). Just called to see why our premium went up by $30 a month and the young women I spoke with was clearly not happy to be at work. After stating we will keep policy in place but will shop around, she hung up on me! Not a very good way to keep customers!

A lot of things have changed in Summerville over 40 years, but one that has not is the exceptional service provided by the Chitwood Agency! After Hurricane Hugo in '89, Mr. Chitwood appeared at our front door, checkbook in hand, offering to help. We were really impressed! Now, after having had the pleasure of working w/Stephanie Lively who is extremely efficient and knowledgeable, I can say that the Chitwood Agency offers the same exceptional service it always have. We were delighted, also, to learn that we were saving $$!! If you need insurance, Stephanie can fix you right up! She is a pleasure to work with!
