Bear and I always have a great experience at Smith's Animal Hospital. The people are wonderful and genuine. It's always easy to tell when people love what they do.

New in town. I can see some of the negative perspective from some reviews here. First off they are not appointment based. Walk-in only. Of the three visits I’ve had. I left one of my dogs there for two of them. My past veterinarians were better at calling with updates than this place is.
The first time, no call until an hour before closing (after being there for eight hours for an X-ray). Second time with surgery. I dropped her off at 7 in the morning. Didn’t go into surgery until 6pm which I did not know until I called.
Sure I’m just a dog dad worrying about his little girl. But I would’ve appreciated a heads up. Especially since I was told to have her not eat the night before.
Staff interactions have been pleasant, but i do think communicating when leaving a pet there could be better! Not being appointment based though jumbles things up for many pet parents.

Don’t take your dog here if you want to get it back healthy and alive. Terrible staff, when you have to call to get updates about a puppy (because they won’t call) they tell you it’s not their job. Fed a 1 pound puppy every hour and caused it to aspirate, brought it home with food coming out of its nose. The dog passed away a hour after getting it home. Refused to run tests on puppy to pinpoint exactly what was wrong with the puppy. Very RUDE staff. It’s unbelievable i paid for this place to slowly kill my puppy, and it is not a cheap place to take your animals. I would not recommend taking any animal to this facility

If you love your dog don’t take it to this Smith animal Hospital… Let me tell you why!!! My daughter took her French bulldog here to have puppies. I went with her at 2:30 PM to pick the dogs up. She dropped them off in the a.m. to do the C-section.. That afternoon when we picked them up, they had not even let the puppies eat from the mother. One thing about my daughter and her dogs, she cares for them like kids. So this was a red flag, but when one of the puppies got sick, VERY SICK, she took it back to this so called animal Hospital, 3 days dropping it off picking it up!!!!$$$ The 3rd day the vet come out to speak down to my daughter, then the receptionist thought she could do the same. NOW BACK TO THE SICK DOG. It was no better than the first day she took it. It’s all about the money in my opinion not about the care of the animals. They was paid and end Results the puppy suffered for three days at the hands of this vet…. The dog passed, so to the vet that Treated this dog I hope you sleep good at night. By reading your reviews, sir this ain’t the first time it’s happened, I hope people read your reviews before they take their animals to your hospital. Do you let this puppy die With no cares given. So I’m rotten this review, hoping that people will read it and think twice before they ever let you care for their animal

TERRIBLE PLACE!!! Do not take your dogs there, you will never get updates on your dogs, the receptionists have very nasty attitudes and they answer the phone terribly, no common courtesy whatsoever! I will be taking my business elsewhere!

Staff and Veterinarian always courteous, professional and competitive pricing. Super nice new facility. Waited 5 minutes, no appointment needed is the best thing. On a Wednesday at 11am, only 1 other animal waiting. On a weekend or afternoon the wait times can be longer from past experience.

Don't let the clinic 's appearance fool you. Don't let the new video fool you. That video was not there before my review. It's been recently added since July 2024. I just saw it and updated my review just now.
Dr. King had a small filthy office across the street and only resently opened the new one 4 years ago.
Dr.King never explains the tests results and what certain levels mean. He doesn't talk about what methods are available to treat illness. He does not talk about what to expect from the illness or certain medications.
Dr.King doesn't talk to the pets, nor does he pet them. Dr.King is numb and shows no empathy to the pets or the owners. Dr.King doesn't store or have certain products other more 'knowledgable' veterinarians do, maybe because he just doesn't care. Pet parents are in the dark with what treatments are available. Dr.King doesn't smile or say anything, and pretends not to notice the pets and pet parents waiting. Dr.King ignores his waiting room. When pet parents pick up their pets he does not follow up or greet them, so if you drop off your pet and have to pick up your pet, there is never any information about your pets stay and what they did with your pet . There is no talking or follow up on a day you paid for. You are just handed the leash to take your pet away.
Dr. King does not tell you what to expect with the illness your pet has. Dr. King does not tell you what to expect from medications, or the warnings of certain medications. Dr. King does not tell you about what other types of medications are available for certain illnesses. Dr. King never explains treatment options. If you don't know what questions to ask, a caring veterinarian will be able to tell you those questions and answers. But Dr.King does not.
The staff will not find who sells a medication they do not carry. The staff does not know what medications they carry either. The staff will not fax or call a pet pharmacy to help you. The staff will snap at you if you ask them to help you with that. The staff does not listen after they work there. I said my pet cannot stand up. When the staff took my pet from my arms, the staff immediately put my pet on the floor to walk away and my pet fell. They just don't hear what you are saying.
Our dogs and cats are blood and bone sentient animals with deep emotional feelings and attachments to their owners. Treat them as such.

Absolutely the best in the upstate. Dr. King and Dr carlisle along with their staff have taken very good care of the 2 cats that I have had. They treat your animal like their own and are in communication with you constantly with the treatments that your pet is getting. Their pricing is very reasonable and they take pride in their work. The whole staff is compassionate and respectful.

I actually love this place. Dr. Carlyle is great and definitely knows what he's doing. Blood work and exams aren't overpriced. When I brought my cat in, they took very good care of her. 2 weeks later, I had to bring my dog in because he hurt his back. It was a different vet this time am older man but I was told previously when i brought my cat in that If I dropped off my animal or they had to stay for the day I wouldn't be charged the $65 exam fee. However, when I had to leave my dog there for the day, I was still charged the exam fee. It's not a big deal because I love my fur baby, and he is getting better every day. When I brought him in, he couldn't walk on his back legs, and by the next day after our visit, he was able to use his back legs again but still hunched over a bit. It's a week later now, and he's not walking hunched over anymore. He's able to use his back legs, but I'm still following the vets directives by keeping him on kennel and bed rest. Hopefully he'll be fully recovered in a few weeks.

Be very careful with this vet and all vets they rope you in and treat your animal like they’re human being. Next thing you know you’re spending thousands of dollars on a Shih Tzu just because the veterinarian told you to even though the dog has been fine. Once I get you on a prescription medication, they require you to keep coming in and spending all kinds of money to continue the medication, etc. etc. it might be understandable if the dog was the only thing in your life but if you have children and a family to support you can’t afford to spend that kind of money on an animal. They won’t sit down with you and explain all options so that you can do a cost benefit analysis before you move. Move forward either. They keep you in the dark so that you already have moved forward.
