We adopted our Lady Bo from here. All of the dogs looked great and well taken care of in their kennels. The staff were all welcoming and helpful. We live in Asheville, so the dog we adopted had to ride in the car with us for a few hours before we got home - so they gave her a bath before handing her over?! Wow!!! Also the adoption came with dog treats, toys, a collar & leash! Pretty nice! And our very shy Bo has really come out of her shell in the past 3 months. In response to another review about heartworm positive dog adoption: I was told beforehand that Bo had not been tested for heartworms. Heartworm treatment can easily exceed $1,000 (I know from 2 other dogs in my life.) Bo did not have heartworms. I have included a heat map of heartworm infection rates. As you can see, Orangeburg is in an area of high prevalence of heartworms. As for intestinal parasites, I would imagine that Orangeburg’s warm temperatures and relative proximity to the ocean would mean a high rate of intestinal parasites also. But these are usually highly treatable at a low cost. If the heartworm is a major concern for you, come up to Asheville and get a dog from the humane society here. There is a low rate of infection and I think they test. Also adoptions here are also free.I couldn’t find a dog I wanted at Asheville Humane, which is why I ended up adopting my Bo Lady at the Orangeburg SPCA. I hope that helps.

Although, the hours of operation posted said one thing, the place was closed almost an hour before it was supposed to. They have a number, but when you call no-one returns your call. Like, what is the purpose of this facility? If no one's there to assist or even return calls. Wouldn't recommend AT ALL!!

We initially lost our cat of 16 years , we then went to orangeburg to adopt two kittens . We waited two weeks for them to be adopted . They both had eye infections and was assured when we came back they would have been seen by a vet and all should be good . We returned they still had the weeping eyes but we’re given meds and should be ok . We received the kittens even though being wary they just didn’t look well so we decided to run them by our vet . First words out of her was I don’t if the smaller one will make it through the night and the other one is close behind . She then started treating them and for the next few days it was touch and go. That was close 1500. 00 . We tried to contact a manager at that time but never returned our calls . About a year later we were contacted about had we had them fixed which we had . I told her (Alicia) our story and she said send your paperwork and I’ll see what I can do . She then sa she would send us 160.00 for our troubles .that was in 2023 and to this day I get promises but no check . Kittys are healthy now but no one wants to go through that .

We adopted a wonderful dog at the Orangeburg, SPCA this dog is an exceptional dog and we love him very much. When we took Buddy to the vet we found that he had intestinal worms and also tested positive for Heartworms. The vet bill so far has been over $1000! I suggest that anyone adopting a dog from any SPCA be sure to ask if the dog has been tested for worms and they specially Heartworms, the heartworm treatment is very difficult for the dog, and after three days of treatment, he must now be kept in a small area, only to go outside in our yard as necessary he’s not allowed to go for walks or anything active for four weeks. ! Again, it’s going to be a long four weeks with no box. Does he love some. So be sure to check about worms and especially the heart worms. Sincerely Todd Stetson. PS, while at the vets picking up my boy, I was talking to a man that turned out. He had also adopted a small dog from the same Orangeburg, SPCA and his dog also was in for worms and heart worms the tested positive, so this is not a one situation. Heartworms are extreme Lee transferable to other dogs kept in the same areas. I think the SPCA should test all animals prior to letting people adopt them or change in their procedures.

There are way too many people around the counter doing nothing that could have been cleaning stalls and cages of animals. The smell and appearance of the facility will tell you that they can do a better job of cleaning

I tried to adopt starlight. Went 3 times to see her, saw her once. When the Normal weekend woman wasn't there. Other than that, got turned away 2 times (normal weekend girl) even after following initial instructions. Left my number twice in case not adopted. They said had deposit over a year ago. Never called and I see she is still up for adoption. Also saw king which the normal weekend girl said don't adopt. My last pit was so skiddish I had to reel her in every 10 minutes she was so scared. When she passed from a stroke, she passed trying to jump on my bed once so I layed on the floor with her till morning to take her to the vet. Not a good place to get a dog. They discourage you and don't even call when a dog your interested in is available. So just don't even leave a number. Waste of your time. So annoyed I complained everywhere. No one ever responded. Guess they are desperate. But don't be so desperate you hire incompetent employees. Wow!!

My husband and I recently lost our first dog together due to some medical issues. A coworker of mine sang the praises of Orangeburg SPCA since he has adopted his last three dogs from them. Initially I was interested in an adorable puppy who was ultimately adopted by its foster family but we decided to still go see what dogs they had available. We met an adorable not so little guy who was about 3-4 months who was friendly and sweet. Within a few days he became ours and we are now his furever home. Despite being short staffed Ali did her best to keep us updated and to answer any and all questions she had before the big day. She made sure he got a bath and had all of her paperwork in order when we arrived to pick him up on Saturday (01/06/2023). It is obvious how much Ali and the other staff/volunteers love these sweet animals and how much they want to find good homes for them. Overall it was a wonderful process. Bringing home a new pup has not eased the pain of loss but it is so nice to be able to give a new guy love and affection. Thank you so much Orangeburg SPCA <3

Two years ago I went here in search for my first dog. The staff and everyone was so incredible in helping me find my fur baby. I went with a few dogs in mind off of their website. After seeing a few dogs my heart was set on one dog named trisket. I can’t thank the SPCA and staff enough for allowing me to adopt my sweet boy.

Adopted Sadie (formerly known as Betty) in August 2021. She was approximately 5 months old. She is the sweetest, most lovable of our four dogs. She is healthy and very active. We highly recommend the Orangeburg SPCA!

The manager at this SPCA will lie to you. We recently got a dog from here and our daughter got one last yr and she said they were fixed an had all their shots and we're house broke and they were not.my daughters dog had nothing and we paid for out of pocket cause when we called her on it she said they'd pay to have it fixed but put dodged her for 3 months till we paid for it. Our dog has only had it's rabies shots and has heart worms . This is totally unacceptable....do not believe what she tells you and ask for records up front.
