My wife and I have loved Lidl for some time, and we were excited when a new store opened on Dorchester Road in Charleston. For the first year, the store was magnificent, and we often went more than once a week. We especially loved the fact that Lidl was not like other chain American grocery stores. There were more international foods, and the special weeks devoted to different countries (Greek Week, Italian Week) offered us food we simply could not find anywhere else. But more recently, these have started to fade away. We fear that Lidl is going to set aside what made it distinctive and truly excellent to be more like the average American grocery store. We hope this doesn't happen and that our fears are unfounded. But if Lidl does go in this direction, it will lose some of its most loyal customers. In addition, it will never be able to successfully compete with the more established American supermarkets.

Be sure to double check your products before you buy. I've had multiple instances where I got home and something was moldy.

Bring a jacket, the store is very cold. Lots of different items, fresh bakery, big meat department, interesting non-food items every week. Produce is always very disappointing probably because the store doesn't get a lot of foot traffic. Every time i go, there's very few people in there. Should have opened it in Mount Pleasant.

As a German I have to say the bakery section is the best bread to buy in Charleston - almost feels like home!
Plus staff is super nice and efficient, waiting times at checkout are so much shorter when compared to Harris teeter or publix!

So far, so good!! I’ve shopped there twice now. They have a great selection, and their prices are pretty good. It’s freezing cold in there; but I’d rather be cold while shopping, than hot, lol.

I would give it 5 stars just for the affordability and deals; however, I have to knock some stars because for the recent times that I have shopped there, the PACKAGED BREAD that I have purchased have gone moldy within 5 days of purchase.
Their bakery is fine if you eat it while it is still fresh, but I am not confident in their freshness of their other breads. Plus, there are more pricey for something that will go bad real quick.
