Dropped off 4 strays (1 mom, 3 kittens) that I’ve been caring for so they could get vaxxed and spayed. They dropped off the first 2 i left with them without notifying me and mixed up the mother with some other cat. After i told them this they insisted that the mother was only 3 months despite me caring for her for over half a year and said they cannot/will not fo anything until I bring in the other random stray to them. Very disappointed on how they could’ve possibly mixed up since they look nothing alike. 1st pic is mom and 2nd is the last i saw of the stray

Almost 10 years ago, I fell in love and adopted a 5-7 year old cat. She was absolutely perfect. At midnight last night, she passed away. Thank you for giving me almost 10 years of joy and love.

At first it was pretty busy …. Lol I guess everyone wanted a pet today. Carly was a delight though !!! She was very patient and actually knew how to hold a conversation. She was super sweet and we’re so glad she got to be a part of our adoption process ❤️ 10/10 would recommend. Plus the kittens were on a major discount so we didn’t go out our way to get a pet !!

We arrived here at 9am and didn’t leave until 11am. We were the only people there waiting on an animal. I’m annoyed because I saw so many employees, so I do not understand what took so long and why were we not told why there was such a long wait time. We also called like 5 times before we arrived and nobody answered the phone. Last thing, one of the clinic workers is really rude. I couldn’t see her name tag because she had it turned around the whole time, but she was not nice. I gave 3 stars because they gave our cat free care, like they are supposed to do a few days after adopting.

I adopted Max in a very hard time in my life. He has brought me so much joy, and happiness while I was going through cancer treatment.

I recently inquired about spaying my dog through my vet and they quoted me $800 since my dog is over 7. I researched around and came across the Animal Society. From start to finish, everything was great. The booking process is very easy. All you do is add your dog’s details to their form, and select the best date that fits your needs. Once you have done that, they quickly follow up with an approval/denial to your request. Once approved, they send a detailed list of things you may need before coming in. I got my girl’s blood drawn at my local vet and took the results and her vaccination history with me.I arrived at 7:30 am to drop her off and from the moment you walk in, everyone is very sweet. They could tell I was nervous and assured me everything would be okay and they would update me when she was out of surgery. They called me around 11:15 and told me I could pick her up 12:30ish-1 so they had time to monitor. I noticed while she was under anesthesia, they also trimmed her nails. This was very much appreciated, as my husky isn’t receptive to us doing it while she’s awake. We’re on day 3 and my girl seems to be doing great. If you’re looking for affordable means to spay/neuter your animal.. this is the place! They also do adoptions. Thank you so much to everyone who helped with my dog. ❤️

I adopted my cat from here 5 years ago and did not have any issues. Most recently, I adopted a dog and, unfortunately, had to surrender her within 2 months due to most of the staff’s inconsistencies and care for her. When I first met the pup, I was immediately alarmed at how large her paws were. They were the size of baseballs. I asked them about it and they said it was completely normal and they reassured me she had a clean bill of health which was important since I knew I couldn’t afford chronic health issues and they also reassured me that she was good on a leash. One of the staff even took naps in her kennel on his break so I was confident she was healthy and fine. She didn’t eat a lot for the first 3 days and they reassured me she’s a grazer throughout the day (she wasn’t). Then she was chewing at her paws and skin and I decided she needed to see a vet they recommended. She ended up having chronic ear infections that animal society said was gone, a bacterial infection from chewing her paws raw (which was actually ringworm that no one caught even the vet they recommended) and chronic atopic dermatitis. Any of which would have been found having paid any attention to her. She had major leash aggression once we left the animal society as well but that’s hard to see when the dog has never left the shelter. Unfortunately, she was lunging at children as well and I live in an apartment complex. I asked for help and was swept under a rug no matter how many times I called. All of this happened within the first month of having her and they were aware. I decided to keep her and of course something else came up after a few more weeks of having her. I called and begged for help because I was in the hole with her. And they told me there was nothing to be done. I went up to talk to someone in person and was SHUSHED by one of the employees with colorful hair for telling them about her leash aggression in front of a potential adopter for a different dog. And then when I finally spoke to the resource manager, Ashley (who is amazing and is responsible for one of the few positive experiences I had), who told me the staff had not logged my calls and neglected to tell her what was going on with my pup at all. And she was 100% willing to help. Unfortunately, this experience with adopting a dog from CAS has made a negative impression and I don’t believe I’m allowed to adopt again, but I wouldn’t dream of it after this experience. Did I mention the pup also had ringworm (why she was licking her paws after all) which she gave me not long after surrendering her? Awful awful awful experience through and through :/ I understand at the time of me adopting her they had an influx of dogs, but this was 100% preventable and avoidable. So disappointed with 90% of my interactions after adopting a dog.

They were helpful at first they put the cat to sleep without even looking at I understand they've got a lot of animals coming through the way they went about it was just not right other than that they were great

This place is incapable of both answering the phone AND returning my phone call. Truly disappointing and I'm not sure why they're so dysnfunctional. I'd do ZERO stars if I could.

We adopted our dog, Timber, last year from the Charleston Animal Society (CAS). He was found alone on the side of the road at only 3 weeks old. CAS took him in and fostered him until he was ready for adoption. He became sick the day after we brought him home. They were amazing and instantly brought him into their clinic and evaluated him, gave him fluids, and medicine to help him recover. We noticed when he was a little older that he had some fear anxiety and aggression. I called and they recommended a wonderful behaviorist/trainer that came to our home to evaluate him. We were able to work with her to help him overcome his fears and become a great family dog. They are a wonderful part of our community and truly care for the animals.

As an adopter and community member, I applaud Charleston Animal Society for its dedication to lifting the quality of life for pets and their people throughout Charleston County and across South Carolina. From the caring vets in the clinic to the adoption staff everyone is professional and friendly. We love our dog and encourage others to visit this shelter. It is not depressing at all.

10/10!!! Staff is AMAZING!!!! Just picked up my Lucy from her Spay Surgery. The surgeon and staff fell immediately in Love with her. They made sure she was comfortable & the facility was very clean. A huge and wonderful Shout out to Charleston Humane Society who were both affordable compared to $900 for this surgery and only charge 1/3 price plus they were just as nice as they could be to us. Which is rare these days but so appreciated ? I recommend to anyone seeking spay/neuter or adoption to DO SO HERE!!!

I meet Moose December 1 2022. He was loud and had lots of energy. So we got home and I introduced him to the 3 female dog's. He was very considerate and enthusiastic about the circumstances. More than anything he has been amazing. I put him in the Car yesterday and 99% of the dog's dont listen or there all over the place. Moose sat down in the back seat and had a peaceful ride home. I had a blanket on the couch and bed. Moose knew his place. I'm so happy I got this beautiful amazing Dog. I think nothing is perfect but I have to say in this circumstance. I was so blessed to find Moose and he is the best dog I could have found. Thank you too the amazing people who have given so much and I can't thank them enough for taking great care of Moose because he will be loved bye everyone

It is a no kill shelter so I feel safe that they will hold the animals until the they can find a new owner for them.
