“A magical, mystical place where Heaven and Earth meet despite it's horrific history as a former plantation and the inexcusable brutality of stealing and enslaving Africans and their descendants to work there (and around the US).There is some comfort in knowing that the Trappist Monks who now live and work the land have begun a visible and palpable effort to acknowledge the ugly plantation history through their African cemetery, gardens, and other physical structures of "racial reconciliation" at Mepkin Abbey.That said, I felt the presence of God in one of the most intense ways at Mepkin Abbey! So, my visit to the Monastery is unforgettable, and I will continue to go back and support the Monastery.”
