If you're a visitor to the island, you need to rent from Avis. The service is excellent, cars are new and clean, and I've found them to be competitive rate-wise to the other rental companies. Ask for Jack. He's the best!

I picked up a Hyundai Elantra at the Charleston International Airport on Feb 2 at 11:06, I drove To Hilton Head International Airport 104 miles away with one detour for lunch. I returned the vehicle at 2:54 pm which is the time they checked it in. I'm certain I dropped it off sooner. I failed to fill up the gas tank which was full when I picked it up. I returned the vehicle with about 7/8 of a tank of gas left. The Hilton Head facility states I drove 447 miles which at 65 MPH avg I would have needed to keep the car for 6.9 hrs. The guy at the front desk in HH was unhelpful and stated it's all computerized and he couldn't do anything about it. I called Avis today 2/7 and spoke with Hugo presented the facts and he found some discrepancies and refunded 75% of the fuel charge. Be aware of the HH Avis they are as unethical as they come.

Cost of rental car changed for no reason. Told there would be extra charges by one person and not by another. Charged 420.00 for 4 days should have been for 8 days. Too many variables.

Beware - this is supposedly a “franchise” location that does not honor any returns / exchanges for vehicles in spite of initiating a case number with Avis’ national customer service line. In my case, I was referred to this location to exchange a vehicle by the National customer service line. I wasted 2 hours coming to this location. This location does not even have a phone number to call, only the National service line.

We have been renting with Avis for a while now. Their customer service representatives are always pleasant, helpful & efficient. The vehicles are always in great condition and the app is easy to use.

Very unprofessional, charges random fees that John at the counter says to check the terms and conditions and can’t actually find the part in the terms and conditions about fees. He then calls a random worker in a polo jumpsuit who comes out to explain the contract. He then can’t find anything contract related. You can clearly tell they love their job LOLPLEASE READ THE OTHER REVIEWS, THEY DO THIS TO EVERYONE.The workers at Hilton Head are incompetent at their jobs and will simply refuse to answer questions because they know they are charging junk fees that cannot be traced. Hilton Head you have been warned, please please stay away. Take a look at the picture and you will see their employees who don’t even wear uniforms.

I've been ripped off! The gave me a cost for the car rental and then tried to say I kept the car longer than I did. They charged me for 2 extra days doubling the cost. Once I provided documentation that I dropped the car off on time they refunded a small fraction of the charge. This is such shady business. I'll be filing a complaint with expedia where I booked it and reporting it to my credit card. I will never rent from Avis again. If give the chance I will let anyone know how unethical they are. Wrong. Shame on you Avis!!!

Be aware of Hilton Head Avis: I made the reservation over the phone, when I got there I was told they didn’t have any cars ( so why not say that when they had me on the on the phone?) Finally after going back and forth, there was an electric car suddenly available. I reserve car @ $60/day, I end up paying $80 plus all the other fees. The rep. told me I couldn’t use my AARP. discount. I believe because I was on vacation in Hilton Head, they assumed I had money and was very much taken advantage of. Never again ?

All time pathetic customer experience today. November 12, 2023 around 12pm. I did not get the name of the man working.I dropped a one way rental on 11/8 in Hilton Head. I confirmed (twice) when dropping off that we had filled the tank to full less than a mile away. I have had issues with Avis in the past charging refueling fees despite already paying to fill the tank before return.Sure enough - $45 dollar charge was included on the bill that was sent out. I called corporate - nothing, called billing - nothing. Eventually I drove to the location only to be told that there was nothing that could be done other than.... call corporate over and over until someone replies. I asked if there was any management where I could log a complaint and was told that there was no management at the location and that the owners contact information was "private".I have some miserable interactions with other companies, but this one takes the cake. Singular worst customer service experience and that says a lot as a frequent business traveler who deals with nonsense all the time.Avoid HHH Avis at all costs.

The young lady constantly asked me for a 'discount code' b/c she couldn't process the car rental. After 20 minutes or so, her sidekick (thinks that he's a standup comedian) chimed in (when I finally asked her if she had someone that she could call to help. It's worth mentioning that he is apparently her boss and sitting DIRECTLY next to her, hearing all of these challenges. They asked me the same questions multiple times but never listened to the answers, including for me to contact the booking agent USAA. Finally, after I told them that it might be because I used a different credit card to book than the one that I gave her, they both indicated that this COULDN'T be the case. So, they continued to flounder until finally offering to give the other card a try. This fixed the problem and they couldn't believe it ("this never happened before", etc, etc). At any rate, after over a 30 minute wait, we were able to check in and be on our way.I realize that it's hard to find good help. But, frankly, there is no place in the work force for this type of complacency, ill fitting jokes and poor customer care. ESPECIALLY after I was the one that came up with a solution to the problem. Hopefully, your staff will take a moment to listen to the comedian's shenanigans in person. You won't be laughing and you will be disappointed as well.

Avis employee added insurance after I told him I didn't need it. (Shame on me for not reading the fine print.) Vehicle brakes were awful. One tire had low pressure. This local Avis is likely no better or worse than the competition but the addition of insurance when it was expressly declined felt a bit sleazy.

Was charged extra because I retuned my car 15 mins late because I was stuck in traffic and had to fill up the tank. Also was given a car with damage
