Today I was looking forward to buying 2 lovely dresses...but much to my surprise both dresses looked as if they had been used to sweep the floors with. Both had stuck on dust and dirt along the bottom. One was just TOO filthy to buy and the other (when I tried to pick the dust off, it made the bottom look haggard). I really wanted this dress as a maternity dress for myself so I took it up to purchase it in hopes that I would get a small discount at least.
My store associate asked her manager if I could get a discount and the manager said "no, they cant do discounts for dirt because dirt can be cleaned off" ....can all dirt be cleaned off?? But more importantly, should a customer HAVE to pay full price for a dirty garment? Should I have to go home and clean brand new clothes? Is this TJ Maxx or do they moonlight as a thrift store? In this economy where money is hard to come by, is this customer service now? Would a discount have pulled money personally from this managers pocket? I don't have the managers name, but I felt she needs more training. She's a slim African American woman who was working AM shift on June 30, 2024.

I love T. J. Maxx, I'm jus surprised that 90% of the store is everything but men, and you have to scour the racks to find something nice.

The store is understaffed. Not their fault, unless half the people are hiding...

This is my favorite TJ Maxx location. Clean, well maintained, and a great selection of clothes and home products.

Mostly great. I go here often and find great deals on home goods and clothing. It's very busy most of the time and you might get stuck waiting in line but they do their best to keep up

If I could give TJ Maxx a -500 review I would. I am an African American native of Birmingham, Alabama, and I came to South Carolina to celebrate my cousins birthday. While there I came to TJ Maxx to shop for a few things like I have done before many of times. When I was ready to try on my items, I asked the dressing room attendant if she could direct me to the restroom. The dressing room attendant stared in my face and did not respond, so I assumed that she didn’t hear me and I asked her again, she did not respond again. However, she did proceed to assist other Caucasian customers to the dressing room. I even heard a Caucasian customer ask her, “how many items can I take back to the dressing room?”, and she responded “however many you would like.” So after she responded to the customer I asked her again, “ma’am, could you please tell me where the restroom is?” And she continued to stare in my face and not respond. An African-American customer was coming out of the dressing room, and both of us looked at each other, and I asked her “Is there something wrong? Am I missing something?” And she shrugged her shoulders in a way that implied she just received that same treatment from her. I am mediately went to the front register and asked associate if I could speak with a supervisor or manager, and I told her my experience. She then proceeded to ask me if the incident happened back in the dressing room and I said yes, and I was alarmed because she identified where the incident took place!! Implying that this was not the first time that this had happened with this attendant!!! The associate said she would get her manager and her manager quickly came over to speak with me. I told her of the incident and I also mentioned that my racial profile experience is a reflection of TJ Maxx as a corporation and a brand. The supervisor stated that she agreed, and that she did not want this experience and associate to be a reflection of TJ Maxx. I followed her to the back and I asked the supervisor could she direct me to the restroom and she did. After leaving the restroom the dressing room attendant was still there, and she stared at me in a threatening way. I found the supervisor and she escorted me to the dressing room. When we got back there, I asked her why was the attendant still there and she said that she was waiting on me to come back to the dressing room to remove her. Once again, I mentioned that she will do this again if she remains employed and the next experience can potentially escalate. I’m highly disappointed and I’m offended that TJMaxx would employ anyone who racially profiles. I’ve financially contributed to TJMaxx’s success for years!!!! Never have I ever been disrespected and racially profiled at this level. I’ve learned if you want change, it starts with yourself. So no longer will I continue to financially fund TJMaxx to hire employees who racially profile. Period. I hope this is a lesson learned. It would be different if this was their first incident with this lady, however, they obviously had complaints before about her and yet she was still an employee there. Let that sink in. I left all of my items in the cart and left.
