Congratulations Family Dollar Store in Gaffney, S.C.! You just lost me as a customer! Not only this location; but the other locations also! I'm not going to rant and rave in this review; but my relationship with this bunch is severed! And it's all over 1.00 and poor management! I just bought two six packs of paper towels that were marked 4.50 a pack. I walked out the door, looked at my receipt and realized that I was charged an extra dollar for both. I politely walked back into the store and was confronted by the nice lady who checked me out. She asked me if I had forgotten something and I replied yes; I forgot to get the dollar back that I was overcharged on the paper towels. She explained to me that the Family Dollar chain had been recently bought out by the Dollar Tree group and they aren't allowed to change shelf prices! The new owner sends a person around to do that. Really? Like I said it's not about a lousy Buck at all! And this review is not about the store personnel either they only work there and they are nice folks! It's about honesty and integrity and knowing how to retain customer loyalty at the corporate level.The nice check out lady did offer to let me return my purchase for a refund but I really needed these paper towels! When I was informed that the Dollar Tree group owned this place I knew it was a lost cause.

I shop here regularly. The second shift girl is one of my favorite store clerks and always recognizes me snd my kids. I love it normally. This time was different. I came to get a refund on floor tiles I wasn't using. There were 2 employees, one of which was apparently training. I didn't have my receipt, but company policy states I can return up to 3 items without a receipt in a 30 day period. The older lady, who was giving the training, told me I could not return with no receipt. I told her that policy said otherwise. I guess my arguing the point upset her, because she had a quiet attitude problem after that. She then said I could trade for a gift card only, which I agreed to. I told her I would get cigarettes, and she said I can get whatever I want but I can't have cash. I again agreed that was fine. She explained to the girl how to do it. When the girl tried to ring up my cigarettes, she accidentally refunded them instead of charging them. She asked the older lady if what she was doing was right. I told them that the original refund amount was on screen and that she had voided the cigarettes she refunded. I said with a giggle that she had accidentally refunded the cigarettes. The older lady then looked at the girl, and made eye to eye hand gestures to her, saying, "I'm talking to you, right?" Which was intended to let me know that what I was saying wasn't relevant and to let the girl explain. I was only trying to be friendly and make light of the situation. I found it rude and pretty unprofessional of someone who was training to show obvious disrespect to a customer who was smiling and being pleasant. Maybe I should have just shut up and let them figure it out. But I knew what happened and tried to help. It wasn't blatant disrespect, but the quiet kind you try to play off like professionalism. But, obviously this woman has a problem with other people trying to be friendly. Or even more likely, she doesn't like white women trying to explain stuff to her. In any case, I feel disrespected and I think I'll avoid family dollar for a while.
