York County Humans Society is awful and should be ashamed of themselves. They have many animals who need adopted and turn down good people who are very capable of adopting for no good reason reason and then tell them not to contact them as to why. They need to be put of business. I feel so bad for those animals.Horrible Horrible place.

A great group of people who go out of their way to provide shelter and care for those who can't speak for themselves. Our 4 legged friend need more people like this in their lives.

The staff are helpful, kind, and care about animals very much and it shows! We adopted two kittens from the Human Society of York County at the end of September 2024. They had an overwhelming amount of kittens to adopt. We took home a brother and sister and they have been great! I would recommend the HSYC to anyone looking to adopt a cat or kitten.

We visited three times. They had so many kittens. We finally picked out our favorite Misty. Welcome addition to our family. They seemed overstaffed because someone was always ready to help us. Thank you Barbara. And donations for kitty food are needed. Just throwing that out there

This place was cool and we adopted a pit bull who was about 1 and a half years old. He was sweet, but the shelter lied about his temperament. He would often snap at us and growl. I think they should have been more honest about these behaviors.

***LAST UPDATE 9/5/24. **NONE OF THE PICTURES IN THIS REVIEW CAME FROM THIS PLACE THAT I WAS ABLE TO ADOPT AND CARE FOR!!* **
***READ THIS UNTIL THE END. DO NOT TRY TO ADOPT FROM THEM***
Tried to adopt a kitten back in 2022 that I fell in love with. Didn't expect the price to be $100. Especially considering they are overcrowded with cats, and kittens, to say the least. My boyfriend and I, at the time, went, met him, and fell even more in love while he was with us! We didn't have any pets at the time, yet, I have plenty of experience taking care of cats.
*Check out my review from the Humaine Society of Charlotte. We ended up adopting a tabby gray baby girl. She had just turned a year old after this in March of 22. She was hard to adopt because she was quite frisky, a biter, and a challenge. I took on the task when every other family passed her up.
She may have been abused previously or given to a child too young to care for. I'm not sure, but today, 9/5/24, she is still my baby girl, Luna. Almost 2.5 years old now. She settled down after a month of us adopting her. She stays by my side. Is so loving, and so beautiful! A light gray tabby with glowing eyes like the moon. That's why I named her Luna.
Used to live with my elderly mom for a little while back in 2020. She had 4 cats that I helped her take care of. She had to rehome 2 of them because I wasn't allowed to have them at my new place at the time. Otherwise, I would have.
This place (The Humane Society of York Co) denied my application for a reason they never expained. They wouldn't respond to me why when I asked them. Never contacted me about why when I asked MULTIPLE TIMES!
DO NOT go to this place!!! NO wonder they are so full of cats, and honestly, I would have paid more for the one I wanted originally. He was an orange tabby. So beautiful!! **Update, I have one now!!! He is gorgeous!!
WE the people who want to love these animals will. Otherwise, we would resort to Craigslist. Never again! Go screw yourselves. I gave you time to respond to my many emails. I warned you....BYE!!
Have fun taking care of all those cats and kittens, puppies, and dogs because you keep denying people when you shouldn't be! No wonder you have such terrible reviews on Google. Just gonna keep dwindling down to 1!!!
We've successfully rescued 3 more kittens in December of 2023. ALL healthy, very loved, and well fed well.
We recently found out they don't like the wet food with gravy, or beef. They LOVE the pate with seafood. I accidentally purchased a box of 32 cans of wet food from Amazon of the gravy kind they don't like.
I was able to get my money refunded from Amazon. They said we could use, dispose, or donate.
Our option, to donate 32 cans of wet food for cats, including the 22 we already have. It's not going to be donated to you. We have our favorite veterinarian we are donating to, who's been caring for our precious babies since we've had them.
We could have donated all of this to you to help all of your overcrowding and needs.
We chose not to because your cause is just to deny people and not respond to them. Ignore people who genuinely care and adore animals of all kind.
I hope another management company comes in to save the day and fire all of you!!!

I've been involved with animal rescue in this community for many years. The Humane Society of York County is one of the best rescue organizations we have in the area. They take great care of the animals that come through their doors and fight hard to find excellent forever homes for their dogs and cats. They are kind, hardworking people who care deeply about their animals' longterm health and happiness.
A lot of the reviews here are from people who were denied adoption approval for one reason or another. While that can be very heartrending, I can attest from firsthand experience with other rescues that strict adoption protocols exist for a reason. In both of the Carolinas, laws protecting animals are basically nonexistent and frankly laughable. Many of the animals that are fortunate enough to end up with a reputable rescue have often already "been put through the ringer" - abandoned, abused, neglected, overbred, underfed, seriously ill, etc. Ensuring rescue animals end up in excellent longterm homes is challenging, which is why strict protocols are the NORM at ANY reputable rescue. (I would actually be very wary of rescues that have relaxed adoption protocols. Steer clear!)
I can attest firsthand that if you've every fought long and hard to save an animal's life, your mission isn't just to "find it a home". Your mission is to find that dog or cat a loving home dedicated to the animal's longterm health, safety, and happiness. Your mission is to ensure that cat or dog never again has to face the hardships he or she has already overcome. That's the promise every rescuer/rescue makes to an animal in their care.
Thank you, Humane Society, for tirelessly trying to help the animals in York County! You're saving lives, and the rescue community is grateful!

i adopted junior (now named espresso) around december last year and the process was smooth. though at the time the shelter seemed overcrowded and the workers/volunteers overworked. i’m glad i was able to help one kitty out and he’s a terror but it’s okay because he’s cute

Wouldn’t even let us look at dogs to adopt because my dog at home isn’t neutered? All the adoptees are neutered so accidental pups are not the concern.. so they want me to neuter my dog they’ve never seen for no reason. Great now I’m going to buy a dog from a breeder and have two uncut dogs instead of one. Good thing I’m a responsible owner?
