Great selection. They sell supplies you just can't get at the big chain stores. The gentleman that helped me was very friendly, and didn't rush me, which I appreciate! Will definitely be back. I think I just found my new favorite stop for art supplies!!!!!

This is probably the best art supply store in town if you can make it in the hours they're open. I had a fantastic experience shopping and the selection of watercolors and discounts was wonderful and I was pleased to find they have a loyalty card/frequent buyers card. I'll be making this place a normal part of my creative and indie game development process for sure.

City Art is a fantastic place to have a wedding or other event in their beautiful art gallery. Their staff is very knowledgeable about all their art supplies including pastels, oil and acrylic paints, watercolors, decorative papers and more. They also have a variety of canvas sizes you can't get anywhere else locally.

Love City Art! I haven't done anything in the gallery, but I can tell you that the shop is great. It stocks high quality art products and has pretty reasonable prices. The owner is great and will always make jokes and have a chat with you. There is a 25% student discount for USC students too, which is pretty great!

I visited to purchase watercolor. I was amazed to see so many brands of professional watercolor paint they have that were not listed on their website. There were two people working and both went out of their way to ask me if I needed help and to find what I was looking for. If you need anything to complete a project they have it there.

Called to see if they had something I wanted. The guy acted like I was holding him up from something way more important. Thought maybe they were busy. Get there and the only person in the whole place was the guy behind the counter. He looked pissed off that I walked in. Never offered to help or see what I was looking for and just sat behind the counter on the computer. Found something similar to what I needed but was unsure if it would work for me and wasn't going to be spoken to rudely again for asking another question. I was going to spend a lot of money, instead I left so I wouldn't have to deal with that guy.

City Art is by far the most all service art gallery in the capital city of Columbia, SC. They do it all and they have it all. For starters, I have been a customer of this business for well over 25 years. Back when I first went to their store on Broad River Rd. called Dutch Door. It was a tiny little store and I am happy to say this business grew from humble beginnings to the immense presence in downtown Columbia SC by having high quality art supplies and great customer service. When they moved downtown they quickly became the go to for art supplies. They have monthly art shows and assembled a group of artists and art collections for sale, above and beyond all the other places in town put together. They also offer custom framing and special orders. Anything any art student from USC or any of the 30 colleges and even more high school students could possibly need they have it. Any type of painting, printing, drawing you need or want to do, you can get your supply there. They even have rarely used items such as silverpoint, #3 mechanical pencils, ground pigments and the best supply of easels I have ever personally seen! The building is huge and the main floor gallery can be rented for weddings and events. Who knows maybe I will get married there someday. (If ever, lol!) The classes I have taken with them, starting way back at Dutch Door for Matting and to this day Oil Painting portraits with Stephen Whetstone and a 2 day oil painting portrait workshop next month with Michael DelPriore and others in between, have all been great learning experiences. Not only that, but I can call up and say I am going to need a yard of canvas and I will be over to pick it up and it will be ready. Randy Hanna (one of the principles) can point you to exactly what you need and having been in business so long, he knows what every one of the teachers' prefers the students to use. Best gallery and best art supply, by far!!! If they had 10 stars this place would get that!

Extremely disappointed in City Art! This morning, about 30 minutes ago, I contacted City Art about renting a space for a baby shower. While speaking with Wendy Wells, she advised that she wasn't sure if she had a wedding on the day I inquired about, but her space was probably too expensive for me. I was very perplexed as I had not mentioned to her what my budget was, and prior to contacting her, I had glanced over the contract so I was aware of the cost, and it was actually within my budget. She proceeded to recommend other options like "Nonnah's" as, "they may be cheaper for you". At this point in the conversation I had at no point mentioned to her that cost was an issue, nor have I mentioned that her rate of $200 per hour was too expensive for me. It appeared that she was trying to make excuses to discourage me from renting a space. I am an African American female with a southern dialect, so it likely exuded through our conversation that I am black. While Wendy was speaking I just cut her off and proceeded to tell her I am no longer interested. I'm sure she was relieved that I had said so. I am VERY disappointed that this interaction occurred in this way, and will absolutely NEVER promote City Art to any of my Family and Friends in Columbia, SC.
