I was at the fitness center to get my 2nd virus shot so I cannot comment on the fitness facilities. The Center certainly has all the top equipment and room for lots of activities. I am not sure the fitness rooms are even open while the vaccines are being given.

This is a very nice gym. I enjoy the walking track and cardio because I can watch t.v. while I exercise. I wish they were open on the weekends. We have gone to the other gyms that are and they are not as nice. To Martin V. I am not sure why you included your comment about naked retirees in the sauna. You are supposed to go in the sauna naked. If you went to the gym in the morning or mid afternoon you would probably see a lot of younger men in the sauna. I like the fact that Ft. Jackson is free for the military and you can go any time morning or evening. The showers are very nice as well, but my experience is not to rely on the soap that is provided in the showers. Bring your own.

If you're looking for something base that's esthetically pleasing and has a lot of cardio, this is the place to go. It's located in the solomen center.. kinda confusing. Hours are 5:30-13:30 Monday-Friday. Wish they were open in weekends.

I'm giving this Fort Jackson gym an extra star for the indoor track and good hours. There are lots of machines & a basketball court. The gym is hot but track is cool.

For those who have access to Fort Jackson, the Solomon Gym is probably the best option you have in regards to machines and free-weights. They have two floors of machines, treadmills, and elliptical, an indoor track (very boring track though, I'm an outdoor runner, and this track is 14 laps/mile...ugh.) and locker rooms with saunas (though they are generally filled with old naked retirees. I will never understand the relationship between a sauna and retirees in the nude. I guess I need to wait another 60 years and I'll have some sort of sweaty, fleshy, disgusting epiphany.) I know they offer personal fitness classes, and they have massage therapists with reasonable prices, but I haven't used them (yet) and I'm not sure how good they are. This place gets VERY warm in the summer. A/C occasionally goes out, but since the other two gyms don't even have A/C, it's better than nothing. Remember to bring your DoD ID, they'll need it to scan you in.
