The Spectator Hotel is the epitome of elegance and luxury, yet feels like home, in the heart of Charleston's French Quarter. I chose this hotel due to its central location and top-tier reviews, but felt I should also include a review so all travelers can indulge in one of the best stays I've had in a while. From the moment I arrived, through the time I departed (4 nights), I was enveloped in an atmosphere of refinement and treated like a queen. My room was comfortable and impeccably clean, inclusive of the most luxurious amenities, and a lavishly-stocked mini-bar (complimentary and refilled daily). I rested so comfortably in soft bamboo bedding, enjoyed using my large sumptuous marble bathroom (all bath products included), and enjoyed the most scrumptious breakfasts that were delivered daily to my room (complimentary with your stay and upscale-- not at all a "regular" hotel breakfast as these were one of the highlights of my trip). The service here far exceeded my expectations. Every morning, Darrell greeted me with the kindest "Good morning!" as he delivered the breakfast tray to the room. I always chose an early delivery time and his daily greetings, paired with the delicious breakfasts, started my day off beautifully. This left a profound impact on me-- not many are as kind and helpful at that hour as everyone is at this hotel. Darrell is one of a kind. From the front desk staff, housekeepers, bartenders, and dining team-- to the concierge, butlers appointed to each room (truly "at your service"), and the hotel manager-- I could sing praises all day long of the world-class service received here.If hotel management reads this review, I hope they will ensure that the scrumptious cordials continue to be left for guests in each room during turn-down service, keep every item on the breakfast menu, and keep offering the drink on the bar menu that was serviced with coconut foam on top. I could not stop thinking of these past my stay! Delightful! One can also rent a bike to use around town, pick up a local paper daily, enjoy fresh fruit and chocolate when coming in/out of the property, ask for guidance on what there is to do in Charleston, et al, all compliments of the hotel.Needless to say, I will return! Highly recommend.

Stayed at the Spectator for our minimoon and couldn’t have asked for anything better!! Impeccable service and staff. Honestly have stayed at many nice hotels but the service here was on a different level. From check in until check out the service and friendliness of the staff was incredible. Gorgeous hotel and rooms. We loved the location as everything was walkable and never felt far or inconvenienced at all. We looked at many of other nice boutique hotels in the area before booking and do not regret choosing the Spectator at all. Worth every dime. Highly recommend!

My wife and I took 5-nights and 6-days to see Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. We’d never been to The Spectator Hotel (“TSH”) in Charleston but were referred to it by a family member. We wound up thoroughly enjoying this incredible hotel and would include our experience there among our favorite aspects of the trip. When I looked back at 1) the hotel itself, 2) the practices of TSH, and 3) the staff, I ranked all top-notch. The hotel itself is understated but we found it to be very comfortable, clean and well-maintained. The bar area was large and comfy with friendly and experienced bartenders. We found our room to have a modern look and it was also comfortable, up-to-date and made us feel at home. The practices of TSH are where it begins to separate itself from the pack. Upon check-in guests are offered a cocktail of the day. We loved our Southern Exposure cocktail. A butler helped us with our bags to the room, provided guidance on restaurants and was there for anything we needed. An outstanding breakfast was served in our room by our butler on duty. Our room was stocked with a very nice assortment of snacks and beverages. These were replenished daily, and they were complimentary. Finally, the icing on the cake, was the staff itself. Every single person I dealt with, from housekeeping to front desk, valet, bartender and butler, were on their game. Our butlers, David and Michelle, were super and really helped differentiate TSH from other hotels. We highly recommend staying at The Spectator Hotel when in Charleston!

The Spectator holds immense potential !undoubtedly boosted by the exceptional Butler team that defines the hotel's service as both great and personal. However, as the property marks its eighth year, it becomes increasingly evident that an update is long overdue. The aging furniture and outdated decor in both rooms and the bar are noticeable aspects that require immediate attention. While my overall stay at The Spectator was highly enjoyable, it's worth noting that the influx of new boutique hotels in Charleston poses a challenge. To remain competitive and relevant in this dynamic market, I believe it's crucial for The Spectator to elevate its offerings and step up its game.

An absolutely incredible time at this luxurious and peaceful hotel. We immediately felt at home and comfortable. We arrived, left our bags with the front desk and walked around the city until our room was ready. Once ready, they texted us and a butler greeted us at the door and gave us some facts about the hotel and tips and recommendations about the city. Our bags were waiting for us in our room and we had complete access to the mini-bar that was stocked with waters, coffee, and snacks, all included free. The butlers throughout the day were all very friendly and gave great tips about making reservations or best times to go to restaurants or sight-seeing tours. Highly recommend!Nearby activities: Literally next to the hotel is the Charleston Market full of local vendors and food. Along the market, there are tons of dessert and great eating spots.Walkability: We were able to walk out of the hotel and immediately see shops and historical spots all around.Food & drinks: You're greeted with a welcome drink that is incredibly delicious. Throughout your stay you have access to the mini-fridge with water, iced coffee, sodas, and even kombucha if that's your thing. There are also small snacks that looked like they came from a local vendor and were delicious.

In a world where excellent customer service seems to have gone the way of the dodo, it was a pleasure to discover that excellence in the hospitality industry is still alive and well at the Spectator (and Charleston). From booking to check out, the Spectator provided an impeccable and sophisticated experience at every turn. Every member of the hotel staff we encountered was friendly, gratuitous, and kind, which helped to make us instantly feel at home. Our courtyard king room was gorgeous, complete with steam shower and deep soaking tub. Our days started with a leisurely breakfast (included) in bed, or in our private courtyard, and ended with nightly turn down service which included a little chocolate night cap. The hotel is in the perfect location to walk to all the premier restaurants and key attractions the historic district of Charleston has to offer. The ambiance and craft cocktails in the hotel bar are not to be missed. I would highly recommend the Spectator to anyone who is looking for a special hotel experience. I know this visit has guaranteed my return to the Spectator hotel in the future.

I have a son with special-needs who is obsessed with fancy hotels and restaurants. For his 14th birthday, I made a reservation to stay at The Spectator Hotel.(As Charlestonians, it was just an overnight “staycation” for us!)Quite literally, I could write a (very) long raving review of the property itself — its warm, sophisticated design and all the luxurious amenities one wants when they get away. But I truly believe it’s the “heart” of this hotel that makes it so special. The people working, but really enjoying what they do, within its confines. There’s “integrity” in every detail, and I personally feel that word is lost and often lacking in current times. But from the thoughtful general manager, Carlo, to the polite front desk attendant, Melissa, to the “above-and-beyond” butler team — David, Jim, Chuck and Darryl — my son was gifted a night, and birthday he will never forget!Bright balloons, an assortment of colorful candies, a grandiose Cannoli cake, a bottle of chilled sparkling white grape juice, and the kindest letter made out specifically to my son, “Mr. Aksel,” this was a grand, memorable experience! Many, many thanks to the entire team!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s been a long time since I’ve been at a hotel that hits it out of the park, and the spectator delivers! If this hotel shows up in your search, consider it done and stay here! So many fun little extras other reviews mention, but rooms are silent, service is exceptional, breakfast is delicious!Rooms: Very quiet rooms! I was next to the elevator and could not hear people coming or going— amazing!Walkability: Lots of good places nearby for food and drink. Would recommend Tempest for a romantic dinner, just two small blocks away. Easy nearby parking if valet isn’t your thing.

Could not be better!!Rooms: Could not get better. Really have nothing that could be improved and will definitely be back.Nearby activities: Beautiful historic area, great restaurants and shopping all in walking distance.Safety: Totally safe to walk and tour entire area.Walkability: Close to everything. Historic downtown area, French Market, Kings Street, Battery. Everything was close. Hotel has bikes and went for a bike ride daily to tour city. Highly recommend.Food & drinks: Great bar with great drinks. Breakfast every morning was incredible.

The Spectator ran an advertisement on Facebook promoting live music at their hotel lounge. When I arrived I sat at the bar with four other friends. Four of us sat and one person stood at the bar. The bartender served our drinks and then got very irate when we ordered a drink for our friend who was with us, telling us that the bar had a sitting room only policy. He refused to serve our friend after he had already poured the four of us drinks.First, he should have told us prior to serving the other four drinks. Secondly, the bartender made a huge scene embarrassing us as he yelled. I've never in my life experienced such rude behavior in a bar from the bartender, much less a very elegant bar! Third, if your hotel has such a policy and the seating is limited for a large hotel adjacent to the busy Market Street area, why are you advertising on Facebook? Finally, why wouldn't you have a staff member and a host/hostess stand monitoring people entering the lounge to prevent such a humiliating and senseless scene.Another patron watched the scene and said that had this happened to him and he was staying at the hotel as a guest, he would have paid his bill and left due to the unprofessionalism.Food & drinks: The most rude bartender I've ever met in Charleston since 2006.

We stayed for 4 nights beginning of December for our anniversary and I don't have a single complaint. The rooms were spacious and extremely clean. Chuck and Jim were both suoer friendly and knowledgeable about Charleston and made fresh suggestions. Perfect location for walking and breakfast delivered to the room every morning was a plus. Will be happy to return.Rooms: Bathrooms were very nice with large showers. Spacious rooms with nice lighting.Safety: Felt very safe the whole timeWalkability: Walkable to all main attractions and countless restaurants

Words can not describe how incredible our stay was. We just checked out this morning and I'm writing this review while sitting at the gate for my flight. That's how fast I wanted to write this review. 10/10 would come back in a heartbeat. The staff, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Rose at the bar was the absolute best and we had a great time hanging out with her. Darryl, our butler was a joy to speak with and just put a smile on your face with his presence. I'm sad our trip has come to an end because just staying here was enough to make me want to come back to visit. Thank you to all of the staff! We'll miss all of you

Chose this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and it was fantastic! Upon arrival we were greeted by Dustin the butler who brought us complimentary cocktails in the lounge while he brought our bags up to the room. The room had thoughtful touches like plenty of charging ports and an electronics sanitizer. The bathroom was amazing, a heated towel rack and a massive shower. Also, the hotel toiletries were wonderful. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast with a choice of 5 things that you can have in your room or in the lounge. We had breakfast brought to our room and it arrived on time every day. The nightly turndown service also included a tiny chocolate cup filled with a different liquor every night! The location was perfect for walking to restaurants, carriage tours, and shopping. The service was impeccable, I have never had such considerate housekeeping. Instead of knocking on the door, they texted when we were in the room later asking what time we would like the housekeeper to clean. 100% recommend this hotel!
