Beautiful, quiet hotel! Rooms are nice and clean. The complimentary snacks and waters are a nice touch. The breakfasts are also complimentary with different options. The location is great. There were a few short comings. When we checked in we weren’t offered a welcome drink. We noticed others checking in the next day were. (not a big deal though just a minor detail).
However, the bartender one night turned us away at 9:55pm on a Friday and said they close at ten even though the front desk and website both say 11pm. The following day a different bartender wasn’t very friendly. That department needs some work. Besides that I would recommend the hotel if you aren’t a drinker and looking for a quiet place. We will probably try another place next visit.

Overall the Loutrel was the perfect hotel. Beautiful, well maintained place within walking distance to everything. You are literally surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, the Market, carriage tours, harbor cruises, waterfront area, and on and on. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Hotel has a large rooftop area with tons of cozy seating options. No bar service (at least not during the later evening hours the 3 nights we were up there) but you are free to bring your own beverages up top to enjoy. This is nice because it's very private to pretty much hotel guests only. Unlike other rooftop bars that are open to the public and has tons of people. Very nice way to unwind after a long day of touring/sightseeing/eating. Late evenings had a nice light breeze blowing ontop and just a very small scattering of people.
They serve a complimentary breakfast daily in the bar/lounge/lobby area and i felt it was just right. They had all your basics to get your day started (eggs, bacon or sausage, fruit, yogurt, bagels, toast, croissants, jams/jelly, pastries, coffee/tea, water and juice). And I'm probably missing a few things.
Each evening they had what they call "the finest hour" (happy hour) on the Mezzanine level. They had a few wine options and one "specialty" drink. I felt they should of had a few more drink options. Also felt the wine they offered was a bit on the lower ends of wine. I get it, it's free but they could have done a little better in this area. A bunch of free snacks to choose from in the mezzanine lounge and these snacks are always available there 24/7.
Now, for my two biggest complaints:
1. After an evening out me and my gIrlfriend stopped at the bar on the first floor for a drink. I asked for a "house" cabernet and she got a Tito's and club soda. The bartender hands me the bill and i see the glass of wine was $26 and the tito's and club soda $21. Now look, i get it, we're in a nice upscale hotel in the heart of downtown Charleston and you're gonna pay a little more but come on, $47 for a house cab and a tito's and club soda?? We went to a few upscale restaurants in the area and the most we paid for their house cab was $14. Loutrel, you have to do better. That is absolutely insane.
2. So they want to charge you $45 a night for valet parking but you can park literally right next to the hotel for $35 per night (not that $35 is great). I imagine you could perhaps find parking a little cheaper somewhere else if you felt like driving around but here's the problem, most if not all lots no longer have manned booths like the old days nor do they advertise their rates. Everything is pay by text or app and it is there you see what the rates are. This is ridiculous. You pretty much have to park and go through the app/text parking process to find out how much it costs. The lots should clearly show their rates. Now, the Loutrel doesn't control city parking lots and rates so this isn't on them but just be aware of their $45 per night parking fee if you want valet parking. Otherwise park yourself and save $10.
Lastly, one thing we found a bit odd (and no fault of the Loutrel), was finding food options later in the evening. It seems like very few restaurants stay open late in downtown Charleston. The bar area may stay open later but their kitchens close early. And i'm talking on a Saturday night. Me and my girlfriend got off the sunset harbor cruise tour around 9:30pm and figured we would go somewhere for a few drinks and a little appetizer. Nope, wasn't happening. Went to three places and all three said their kitchens closed at 10pm. Come on Charleston, do better. Ended up going to ole faithful (Tommy Condons). They came thru again.

An absolute wonderful experience. This is my new go-to hotel in Charleston. I am a well traveled person and one of the pickiest people, when it comes to hotel stays, that exist out there. I am of the believe if I am leaving the comfort of my home, the hotel I stay better make up for it. The Loutrel did just that and more. The property is beyond gorgeous, and the scent... OMG the scent. I had to inquire and bought plenty of their scented spray to spray all over my house. I will be calling the hotel to get more when I run out. The decor of the hotel is soothing, comfortable and beautiful. It is beyond clean, rooms and all other areas. Comfortable size rooms with delicious toiletries. The snacks and soft drinks in the room and in the club level is so appreciated and something most higher end hotels lack and should learn from The Loutrel. The breakfast was not your typical all included breakfast. It was delicious and it gave you a feeling of a mini gourmet breakfast. The staff was wonderful and kind. These people are doing something right and I hope they continue to so I can always come back for more. The only thing I would suggest, is to get some kind of bar service to the rooftop. It is such a great atmosphere up there and it isn't ideal to have to bring your own beverage from the lobby. A bartender with a small bar, maybe in the evenings would be sweet. My husband and I loved the Loutrel and the location is superb. We will definitely come back here when in Charleston.
Rooms: Very clean and wonderful rooms. Very comfortable bed and pillows.
Walkability: Easy access to highlights in Charleston and very close to nice dining.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! This has to be the best hotel in Charleston.
The hotel is beautiful, with the perfect balance between modern and authentically 'Charleston', located right in the heart of the city within walking distance to all the best tourist attractions. The rooms are spacious and immaculately cleaned with thoughtful finishings like Dyson hairdryers and local snacks. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and nothing seemed too much to ask. The drinks at the bar were DELICIOUS, we tried the 'The Trust Tree' and the mixologist made me the perfect cocktail and the breakfast was perfect for fueling for a day of exploring with something for everyone.
I can't wait to stay here again next time I'm in town!

The design is very well done.
The atmosphere is a little staid for my taste.
All told, I spent $765 here for one night.
However, since I was half an hour late for the one hour complementary drink from 5 to 6, I was told that I was too late for a complementary glass of white wine.
That’s what stayed with me about my stay at the Loutrel.

This was the Perfect location for our first few days in town. We were right next to the market, and the Pineapple fountain and Rainbow row was just a short walk away. The food was incredible everywhere close by. We loved the welcome drinks and the custom drinks in the afternoon before we headed out to dinner. All of the bar tenders were top shelf. The place was immaculate and they had fresh flowers and drinks in the lobby daily. The rooms were good sized and beds were comfortable. Our trip was fantastic and we can’t wait to come back.

Hands-down the most accommodating hotel we have ever stayed in. The hotel lobby is beautifully decorated and smells divine. There is an array of different kinds of seating with fresh floral arrangements and plants - beautiful natural lighting, high ceilings, decorative trim, gorgeous artwork, full bar - everything is so tastefully done and unique.
The mezzanine area is stocked with snacks, beverages, a coffee machine, puzzles, and games. Again, beautifully decorated. It’s a decent sized space with a more moody/dark aesthetic made to feel like a den with leather sofas.
Breakfast is included with your stay and is very impressive. We were expecting some stale bagels and coffee - no, no, no. There are different options every day but day one had a fruit tray, yogurt, granola, cereal, bagels, croissants, croissants with ham & cheese, eggs, grits, muffins, etc. and orange juice, coffee, tea. The works.
The rooms are again, beautiful. My husband and I booked two rooms because we were staying with our two children. They had already made sure the rooms were adjoining before we even made the request. We had one room with two queens and one accessible room with a king. Both were very spacious and comfortable. Instead of closets there are built in cabinets with storage for hanging clothes and drawers. Each room has a Lavazza coffee maker with three different coffee options, cream, mugs, & to go cups. The fridges come fully stocked with water, soda, sparkling water, and nitro cold brew. There are also chips and cookies - all of which are restocked each day. The bathrooms are basically brand new and immaculately clean. Water pressure is great and the water gets hot. Towels and toiletries are replenished each day.
We have stayed in presidential suites that didn’t even offer 1/4 of this level of service or attention to detail. We were truly blown away and are so grateful to all the staff for such an awesome stay. The Loutrel is one of a kind and a MUST visit!!!!!
