This branch of Budget/Avis is terrible. Do not trust their posted hours. We tried to turn a car in 15min before their crazy early closing time on a Saturday (2PM) and they were already closed. We called and were told it would be no problem to turn it in an hour later the next morning because they open late on Sundays and we had a tour scheduled right when they opened (and they would not let us turn it in earlier on Sunday). They charged us for a full extra day because of their crazy opening times and not being open when they were supposed to be. Now going through credit card dispute process.

I'd give it 0 if I could. I went through Expedia to rent a car. When we got there we were rudely told they didn't have any cars and Expedia rents them out whether they have them or not. While we were in the lobby making other plans a guy came in to return a car and was about to throw away a couple wrappers and an empty water bottle and he was rudely told the garbage can was for employees only (the one in the lobby) and that he had to throw his stuff away outside. This place is a joke.

The website lets you book online and prepay without knowing if they have the vehicle. They cant refund there, you have to call customer service and they had the nerve to tell me usually it’s a $150 to cancel and she was going to SEE what she could do when they are the ones who didn’t have a vehicle. Also the lady who works there didn’t apologize for the inconvenience she actually looked like she couldnt care less won’t be using again

I just returned my car at avis / budget 390 meeting st Charleston SC. The women working was one of if not the rudest person I have ever met, in addition to being aggressive and unable to answer basic questions about the service being provided. I don’t understand how this person can have a job, especially a client facing job. Never again!! Be careful she will over charge as well!!

Lady at the front desk was absolute worst. Went there to pick up car that I had booked online. My CC is attached to Apple Pay so I don't have the physical copy. I asked her if there was any way to change the type of payment and she just said, "Call customer service." I asked her why would I need to call if she's right in front of me and I wanted to try to cancel and rebook or just pay with a different card. She said I need the same exact card for fraud protection. I said I've already been charged and she just kept saying call customer service and wouldn't help at all. Her attitude is the worst and she was rude from the moment I walked in. By looking at the average 2.7 star review I can clearly see why. I 100% would not recommend going to this location.

Decided to take a chance with this location despite the awful reviews because it was the closest to our hotel….BIG MISTAKE. Save yourself hours of time & money spent on Ubers and just go to either a different location or even better different company because honestly budget customer service isn’t much better.Front desk lady needs a new job, worst customer service we’ve EVER experienced. every single review on here is spot on and not over exaggerated, it’s truly THAT bad.

Could be the worse service I’ve ever received in my life. The women at the desk was angry, rude and just not nice. I had not read the reviews till after my experience and most of them were spot on. The women also told me I could call whomever I want and they won’t do anything, guess what she was correct. I called corp, nothing , I tweeted nothing. I even found the owner who also did nothing.I would not recommend this location to my worse enemy. It was absolutely awful.Side note, I went next store to enterprise to see if they had any cars , they proceeded to tell me I was the 20th person in the last few days with the same experience. They described the experience to me and I just confirmed it. Still amazing to me that the company has chosen to do nothing with someone who appears to do this constantly.

Given the large number of 1 star reviews, I would just like to add that my experiences have not been the same. I have rented from here a handful of times over the years, including recently, and have always been treated kindly and professionally. I have also never had any issues picking up, returning, or with any of the cars that I rented.

The woman working there was the rudest person I've ever met. Purposely tried to tag on extra charges for no reason and charged me an extra entire day for $169 because I was 30 mins past my return time. She should be fired she was so mean.

We booked a PREPAID car to drive from Charleston to Savannah midway through our vacation. When we arrived at this location, the woman bluntly told us that she had given our PREPAID car away because we arrived later than our schedule picked up time. At that point, she offered us no further assistance and told us that we were SOL. We had to contact Customer Service while still at the desk. Customer service assured us that there were cars in the lot and even a car had been returned while we were standing at the counter but the woman continued to deny us a vehicle. SHE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO REFUSE US SERVICE. We had to pay for a 30-minute Uber to pickup another car and we’re charged a late checkout fee at our hotel because this woman refused to do her job.

Worst possible experience in Charleston SC. Waiting 1 1/2 hours for car. Told cars aren't being returned. What is point of making reservations? Never going with budget again!!!!!

WORST experience ever! We came to the Budget office at 10:30 for a noon appointment because I had an emergency meeting at noon. Delia refused to accommodate me--she claimed that she could not provide me a car because I was early, she said that my spouse could not pick up the car at noon even though my spouse was with me and had all her information available, she said the reservation was prepaid which precluded her from helping us, and it was not prepaid. We explained we would come back at 1:30 and she said no guarantee she would have a car. She said Budget expects clients to pick cars up on time. She was rude, completely unhelpful.Right next to the Budget office in Charleston is an office for Enterprise. We went next door to rent a car. The gentleman at Enterprise said that having Delia next door at Budget was the single best thing for the local Enterprise business. He said at least 15 times a day, disgruntled Budget customers fed up with Delia's attitude come into Enterprise. I am at a loss how Budget can continue to employ this person.

This may have been the worst rental car experience ever, my girlfriend had made the reservation online for an SUV. The lady working said there wasn’t any SUVs (even though there definitely were in the parking lot). We got a Toyota Corolla and it was FILTHY!! Also the check engine light was on. When we told the clerk she said oh well it’s probably fine, you can swap it out at any Airport budget location. Would definitely not recommend Budget and especially this location!!

Generally okay experience. The cars were clean. You might need a second form of government issued ID which can be tricky if only traveling with a drivers license. Budget is one of the few rentals open on Sundays downtown.

Look, I don't expect stellar service from Avis. I've used them for years now, and I've also dealt with plenty of issues, especially at their outposts like this. But this was a straight-up hostile interaction on a slow day, and I was as friendly and easy as transaction as could be. They really had no reason to be so curt to me.I generally don't get bugged by bad customer service because it usually happens in busy situations, rude other patrons, etc. But this was place was dead and the handoff took 3 minutes. It wasn't even close to closing (~4:15pm).I think the reason that I felt compelled to give a review was for some reason, my car was running when I walked up to it and blasting the radio. I had the key fob, so I don't know how the Altima was still running. In any case, sure maybe they just got the vehicle transferred from another location, but they need to turn off the engine and lock the doors. What if I walked out there after signing the paperwork and the car was gone? What if the car was trashed? Also the car had 52k+ miles on it.Just the most bizarre interaction and rental, and this is coming from someone who's done like 50+ rentals from Avis over the past 7 years around the US, Mexico, and Europe.
