Had a shocking experience on 4/20/24 with Judy and her furniture loader. We've been to this furniture store numerous times, but afraid we've had our last visit to this store. I purchased a leather La-Z-Boy recliner on 4/13/24 for my 90 year old Father. Chose the optional swivel apparatus which was put on before we left the store that day. Took it home where he fell out of it twice, had trouble reclining back because he doesn't have the strength of throw himself back, and slid out due to the foot of the chair staying curved downward even after reclining. I called the store on Monday, 4/15/24 to see if we could return or exchange it. The selection was low at the time of our visit for what we were looking for in leather and Judy said we could have a store credit if we didn't see anything when we came back in. She was very gruff and said in a scolding voice that we should have known that would be a problem because most people get a bigger chair than what they need. I accepted that comment and politely said we'll be back probably on Saturday. She all but hung up on me rushing me off the phone with a rude attitude. We went back on Saturday, taking the chair with us in hopes of finding an exchange replacement. My 90 year old parents who had gone with us on the original purchase, refused to go back due to Judy's rudeness at their last visit. I did find another chair that I thought would work better for Dad, so we were arranging the swap out. Judy told me she had just ordered 30 more chairs and that chair had gone up by $100. I was prepared to pay that. In the meantime, my husband went out to help the loader take the chair off the truck. I was looking for my receipt when Judy comes from the back and in a scolding voice said "Did you now this chair was torn??!" I said "no, I did not" and asked to see where. There was a scraped place along the bottom of the chair that was barely noticeable, therefore, Judy exclaimed "I'm NOT TAKING THAT BACK". She added that there was no way they could have done that because her employee had been with the company 27+ years. (making him not human??) I knew we had not torn the chair, but it was her word against ours and there was nothing we could do. She never had any intention on taking the chair back. The chair was evidently damaged when the loader turned the chair over to screw on the swivel apparatus. It was evident that the chair had been dragged across their cement floor when it was turned over. Also seemed strange that he knew just where to look when reporting to her that he found a tear. I offered to pay any difference and whatever cost to get the new chair out the door, but her attitude escalated even when I stayed calm, expressing to her that we just needed a chair THAT DAY so Dad would have something to sit in. She exclaimed "You wouldn't want to buy anything damaged would you?" I told her I would at a discount if the "damage" was just that small spot. The spot was near the floor side of the chair, so we missed seeing it when taking it home. I wasn't going to stand there and argue with her, but she was so rude and nasty, going from tolerable to absolutely unruly in 3 seconds or less. I told her we definitely would not be back and her response was "good". They scuffled back in the door, slamming it behind them.
My warning to the public is not to buy anything from this place. They claim to be the largest La-Z-Boy dealer in Anderson, SC. The tag on the bottom of the chair had a 2021 manufacture date. The chair had evidently sat on the show floor until 2024 with no leather conditioner and had dried out. At any rate, it is a cheap material that was supposed to be real leather, but tears at the drop of the hat. I paid $1200 which was supposed to be a sale price. BUYER BEWARE. I think it is time the 30 year veterans pass the baton to a younger generation, more up to date on style and know how to treat customers!

Charles Furniture is a good furniture store. The staff are great. Judy the manager is very knowledgeable and helpful. She pleasantly went the extra mile to help us decide on our new living room furniture. If you’re shopping for furniture, you owe it to yourself to check out their inventory. Oh btw, best prices on Lazyboy.

My parents went to purchase 2 recliners. Whole place is not handicap accessible. No handicap bathrooms. No handicap parking. Had to drive in back and go thru warehouse. Horrible experience.
