I have never spent so long waiting for any meal as I did at the Magnolia. The only saving grace was the food was great.

The Mediterranean salad was great - would have had the appetizer plate which is VERY similar but they were out of falafel. Husband had the reuben and it was also very good. Service was very good even though it was quite busy.

The only thing worse than the food is the customer service. Extremely disappointed.

My grandfather lives on a farm about 10 miles on the outskirts of Aiken. I spent a week there this fall and got the opportunity to see this adorable little town. Being from a major city, visiting a town this small, you don't expect to find much along the lines of a bakery. My grandfather is Italian and often laments the fact that there are no Italian pastries to be found in the area since one of the bakers left the local Publix. We were taking a drive through the town, which is really lovely, when we spotted a bakery (which I wasn't sure would even exist here). The front of the shop was half filled with pastries and cupcakes and little odds and ends for sale. The back half of the shop seemed to be for wedding cake production, but it seemed unfinished and empty. There were a few cakes that looked nice and one being worked on by who I can only assume was the owner. We ordered a few cupcakes to taste, the hummingbird and the Italian cream and a couple of cannoli, since they actually had something Italian! My grandfather was delighted! The one thing that bothered me is a common flaw amongst bakeries. They called their red velvet "traditional", but when I asked, it was topped with cream cheese frosting. Traditional red velvet cake is topped with a cooked buttercream. This is a southern thing and you'd think being considered a southern state, some place would actually try to get this right. But, no. Cream cheese frosting strikes again. This bugs me to no end, especially when the word "traditional" is used. The cupcakes were good, but to be honest, when I first started eating them, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. I finally decided the one with fruit chunks in it was the hummingbird. They honestly tasted pretty similar. I would assume this is the only bakery in town, so they probably do a fair amount of business, at least with weddings. My grandfather will probably go back, but just for a cannoli.

I was really excited going into the shop. The display was nice, cupcakes in rows behind the glass, cookies in jars, etc....clean and modern looking inside. Cupcakes looked very nice! I ordered a dozen! and cookies! I brought them home, prepared dinner, and afterwards presented the boxes of treats to be dispersed and consumed! Cookies - The cookies are actually okay. Not super soft, not brick hard...Snickerdoodles were my favorite. Tried the red velvet crumble cookie and it was alright (it beat the red velvet cupcake by a long shot). Rocky road cookie was decent. I didn't buy chocolate chip cookies (they looked a little overcooked and crispy). Cupcakes - They LOOKED great. They felt OLD. They tasted like they had been in the case for a week or so. Frosting had 'set', and the cake inside was dry and stale. The texture was like leaving the cake out on the counter (not wrapped or covered) for multiple days. Red Velvet is my favorite (as well as my fiance's favorite). This was a disaster! The cake was radioactive red (that's not a major issue, but still) and the frosting was NOT the cream cheese frosting. It was blended with walnuts in it. Might have been alright sprinkled on top of the frosting, but whipped into the frosting.....just wasn't my cup of tea. The lady up front was nice enough, service was not a problem at all. Presentation A+, but all the decor and anticipation couldn't save my review. I want it to be good, but it definitely did not meet any of my expectations. =(

The lemon square I sampled was good. I wish I bought that. But I opted for a hummingbird cupcake (pineapple, banana, cinnamon cake) with cream cheese icing. The cake was dense, dry and crumbly, and the bottom was overcooked and chewy. The icing was good. But I was very disappointed by the cake.

Ordered 2 weeks in advance a birthday cake and cupcakes for my 5 yr olds birthday parties. I picked up the birthday cake on Friday and scheduled to pickup the cupcakes on Tuesday for his school party. I arrive on Tuesday at 9:00am and was told the store was closed on Monday therefore I had no cupcakes to pickup....WHAT?? I needed a special order of "choc. doggie face" cupcakes for my childs 5th birthday celebration at his school. As I'm in shock due to no cupcakes, the owner tells me she can put chocolate icing on cupcakes for me. I had no choice....so I left with 11 cupcakes that were ICE COLD for 5 yr old. Not to mention the look of disappointment on my childs face when his cupcakes were not "choc. doggie face" that he picked out himself!! Let me remind you...I was in on Friday to pickup the birthday cake....THEY COULD HAVE TOLD ME THEN THEY HAD CANCELLED MY ORDER FOR TUESDAY!

I really want to like this place. I do. I love dessert. This place is so hit or miss. I went back today for the first time in a long time. I ordered: 1. White Chocolate Cherry Cookie- this was devoured by my husband, who said it was very good. 2. Lemon square- It was unlike any other lemon square I have ever had- and I really enjoyed it. The shortbread crust was perfect, and VERY thick- but again excellent flavor and not under done. The lemon topping, was not to sweet or too tart- I would have liked more of it. But I would go back for this. 3. Lemon Spritz Cookie ( I cannot remember what they called it) They were BAD. I mean something is wrong with that recipe. 4. Oreo Cheesecake- Again my husband ate this. It was in a cupcake wrapper, he enjoyed it. Not the best he has ever had- but good. 5. White Chocolate Raspberry Cupcake- It was not to good. This one was too dense- flavor was only okay. 6. Red Velvet Cupcake- The cake was pretty good- they nailed the red velvet flavor- tangy, without too much chocolate. The Icing however was not so good. It had chunks of nuts in it that really ruined it for me- and the overall flavor or the icing could have been better. Today's total was $8.71...It will probably be a long time ( again) before I go back....

I cannot tell you why it took me so long to go in, maybe the narrow little door? Or i decided it was a wedding cake shop (with windows full of cookies?). But finally I needed a cupcake. I needed it. Next to the Bone-i-fida dog biscuits and Ace Hardware this little shop sits with it's little screen door and two cases full of goodness. One case is just cupcakes, red velvet, seasonal, italian buttercream, hummingbird (i must try this, what in the heck is hummingbird?) chocolate, they are beautiful sitting there.. I get two, the seasonal and the red velvet. I try not to notice the other case, full of delightful little cookies (italian wedding, chocolate chip, really fun sugar -they have 200+ cookie cutter shapes!). Moral of the story? If you are concerned about fitting into your pants, stay away.
