Taxes filed months after turning over all needed materials, then... no record of taxes being filed once supposedly done and the check cashed.... no record of the refund due to us on file with the IRS. No returned calls, email doesn't work... time for the police and a lawyer. "Might have happened to other clients as well due to a software issue"... seriously... I don't think so.

Walt has been doing my taxes for 18 years. My ex-husband's family has been going to Smith's for longer than that. He is able to manage my Federal, RI, and MA forms easily and answers any questions that I have. He's also great guy to talk to. I recommend Smith's to all of my RI friends.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. I met with Dave Smith over a month ago (early to mid March 2018) to have very simple taxes done and was specifically informed my taxes were e-filed and I would get my refund within a few weeks. By my OWN fault I then realized I didn't fully review the forms and my daughter's last name was filed incorrectly. Any attempt to get a hold of him failed miserably - a few responses saying he would have his receptionist contact me, or an email to call him, but nothing beyond that when I tried more. BUT => come to find out he never filed my taxes after all! After not receiving any confirmation from the IRS or state agencies that they had received anything from me I decided to look it and big shocker -> low and behold -> NOTHING! After sending him an email, requesting a refund, with an IRS transcript to show they had no record of my taxes - telling him I would be filing them on my own, he claimed he sent them in on April 7th with my daughter's correct last name???? Without my authorization????? A month after we met???? SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY -> please, do not ever do business with this company. They cannot be trusted, they are not reliable. Never thought I would say this but I would prefer H&R Block over this company.

If i could rate less than 1 star I would. My taxes were screwed up by a new person the first time around. I really didn't mind. It happens. But after the fact, I tried getting in touch with the owner, David, who said he would take care of the situation. If taking care of the situation meant completely ignoring my phone calls, emails and shrugging me off as a customer AFTER I had already paid for their service then he did an amazing job. I will never step foot in that place ever again. I recommend to anyone don't EVER use smith tax service. The only nice thing about that place were the employees.

They did not include two small income amounts from freelance work and a scholarship for school. They told me those amounts wouldn't matter. The IRS apparently disagrees, and sent me a bill for more than $2600. No one from Smith Tax Service has bothered to return any of the four messages I've left since getting the IRS notice. Will NEVER use them again.
