If you’re looking for a caring and professional veterinarian in Rhode Island, I highly recommend West Greenwich Animal Hospital. My calico cat, Cali and I received exceptional care from Dr. Hopper and her team from the moment we walked in the door. We were impressed by the team’s compassion and dedication. Dr. Hopper’s expertise and compassionate, gentle approach made all the difference for Cali, and it’s clear that they truly care about the well-being of every pet.
Whether your pet needs routine care or something more urgent, you’ll find the highest level of service at West Greenwich Animal Hospital. Dr. Hopper’s commitment to providing thorough, thoughtful, and empathic care is unmatched. They made these last few stressful days a whole lot easier (and they have acupuncture (!). Visiting the vet is never easy when you don’t feel well (not to mention having to listen to Mom singing Taylor Swift songs off key while we’re driving), but we would completely recommend Dr. Hopper and the team to any pet owner looking for top-quality veterinary care in Rhode Island. It’s like you can hear Cali right? “Hey Mom, they treat beautiful cats here - look at that picture!” Thanks team!!

Where do I begin. For starters, I took my 6 pound, 9 year old CHIHUAHUA to WGAH for an exam. The doctor, who unfortunately I can not remember her name, came into the room and made no attempt to get to know my dog before beginning the exam. My dog was very on edge and started snapping at her and the tech. They immediately told me I had to put a muzzle on her. They provided me the muzzle and still my chihuahua was growling and was not easy to subdue. They proceeded to get TWO more techs in the room, one of which had on these gloves that went all the way up her arms. They looked like gloves that one would wear if they were handling wildlife, like an Eagle with talons! So here they were, 4 grown adults, attempting to subdue my Chihuahua as I watched in shock. Let's put it in perspective...over 400 pounds of human could not subdue my 6 pound Chihuahua?? And they're all trained professionals??? Finally, I had to step in and ask the wildlife glove wearing tech to remove herself from the equation and with my help my dog was calmed enough to get blood drawn and have her shots. Ok, I let that whole interaction go. I returned to that office for follow-up visits for my other pets for the next couple of years, as well as my chihuahua who saw a different doctor, Doctor Hopper, who was lovely with her and needed no one's help to subdue my dog because she approached my dog in a calm and kind manner and my dog allowed her to give her shots, draw her blood and cut her nails WITHOUT INCIDENT. Imagine that, no wildlife gloves needed! Then, same dog has a skin lump that I want to have looked at. I had made the appointment, switched it once within the allotted time frame. Mind you, to get an appointment took a couple of weeks because they were all booked (important to note for later in my story). The appointment was coming up and I received a call from the office the day prior. My appointment was for 8:30am the next day and the office called me at 1:18pm. Moments before the office called me, I had received an invite to an important meeting at work for 9am the next day. When WGAH called to confirm my next day appointment, I asked if I could reschedule, explaining that moments prior I had received a meeting invite for a meeting that I needed to attend. The person calling to confirm the appointment said that because I hadn't given 24 hours notice, I had to be charged the $50 cancellation fee. So, you mean to tell me, because it was 19 hours prior to my appointment time, I had to be charged $50, when you have people waiting two weeks to get into your business to have their pet seen?? Sounds like a money making gimmick to me, or maybe they need to purchase more wildlife gloves to handle Chihuahua's or even kittens, they have sharp claws. I asked the person if they could have some leniency and forgo the charge and that it was 19 hours prior to my appointment, not two or one. She wouldn't budge. So I told her fine, charge me and I wont be back, ever, with any of my four animals. You can take your wildlife wearing, headstrong, uncompromising, probably shouldn't be in the animal BUSINESS (because that is what they have made it) employees and doctor and shove it. Most of their employees and doctors clearly don't know customer service or the friendly approach to CARING for their patients. Terrible facility, do not recommend. I provided a pic of my Chihuahua from the day of that harrowing appointment. As you can see, she's very scary (not)!!!

Been going there for 27 years now. I've never had a reason to even think about changing. I hate to single out a great Vet because they all are good, but on this visit it was Dr. Betsy. She never fails to impress me with her knowledge and she enlightened me again on this visit. I can't say enough about the assistants either. They're just plain wonderful.

I AM JUST BESIDE MYSELF I WENT TO THIS VET ABOUT 4YEARS AGO AND DOCTOR AMY DID HELP MY TIGER NOW GOING BACK I DO REMEMBER SHE JUST PRESCRIBED MEDICATION THAT HELPED ME HELP HIM BUT SHE IS AND WAS VERY IGNORANT SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T REMEMBER ME OR MY PET BUT SHE LOOKED AT THE XRAY AND SAID HE WAS VERY BAD BUT NEVER SAID HOW GOOD I DID AND HE IS STILL ALIVE. ITS ACTUALLY LIKE SHE HATES ANIMALS AND IS IN THE WRONG PRACTICE OR SHOULD BE RETIRED. SHE SAID HE IS A VERY SICK CAT AND NEEDS TO BE PUT DOWN. I gave him a bath before going so he was wet and looked wet looking trying to keep himself warm. MY CAT HAS HAD A UTI BUT SHE NEVER ASKED ABOUT THAT NEVER DID A URINE TEST ON HIM WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE AND WHEN A CAT HAS A UTI THEY ARE PRONE TO GETTING THEM AGAIN. THE BLOOD WORK SHE TOOK SHE SAID HE HAS KIDNEY FAILURE I HAD JUST TAKING HIM TO A VERY EXCELLENT VET HOSPITAL THAT I HAD BEEN GOING TO FOR 30+YEARS BUT DID NOT INFORM HER OF OF THAT. HE SAID THE KIDNEYS WERE NOT SWOLLEN AT ALL. ALSO LET ME ADD A BLOOD TEST CAN NEVER BE ACCURATE UNLESS YOU DO A FULL SERIES OF TEST TO MAKE SURE HE IS NOT FIP POSITIVE. THEN I SAID HE LOST WEIGHT DO TO I BELIEVE A GI PROBLEM HE MAY HAVE I THEN ASK IS THERE A WAY TO FIND THAT OUT. SHE MAY HAVE BEEN INSULTED BECAUSE I USED WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE TO TRY TO HELP MY BABY BUT SHE SAID THAT A GI PROBLEMS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, AND GI PROBLEMS HAVE EVERYTHING TO DO WITH A CAT THAT IS NOT EATING. HE WAS EATING STILL BABY FOOD THAT I HAD HIM ON BUT HE JUST DIDN'T EAT HIS DRY FOOD IN 2DAYS. THAT WAS DEFINITELY DUE TO A UTI THAT IS 1OF THE SYMPTOMS. THIS VET IS A HORRIBLE PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PET UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO JUST GET DIAGNOSISED FROM WHAT SHE THINKS NOT WHAT IT IS. SHE DOESN'T SEE YOUR PET EVERY DAY AND NEVER SHOULD SAY PUT HIM TO SLEEP BECAUSE OF 1, TIME AFTER SEEING HIM IN FOUR YEARS. HE HAD A LITTLE PAIN IN HIS LEG FROM MY DOCTOR GIVING HIM SHOTS AND SHE SAID HE IS IN ALOT OF PAIN. LET ME TELL YOU IF I CAN POST A PICTURE SOMEWHERE OR A VIDEO YOU WILL SEE MY CAT WAS IN NO PAIN. SHE IS RUDE THINKS SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING AND A VERY IGNORANT PERSON. ITS JUST SAD, PEOPLE HAVE JOBS THEY DONT LIKE OR WANT BUT THERE IS A LIFE INVOLVED HERE WHICH SHOULD BE HANDLE WITH CARE.

Moved back to RI 2 months ago after being in NC for 15 years. Have 2 pups, one who has developed seizure like episodes. I used WGAH before I left RI and called them immediately upon my return.
Dr. Amy is amazing. She has ruled out many possibilities. Diagnosis is tricky because he really needs an EEG, but would never stay still for one! She has ruled out many things with tests she can do. She sat with me for well over an hour explaining what she thinks it is and he is doing well with the meds she is trying.
I would never go anywhere else.

I can not remember the Vets name. She was really good. She was very compassionate when we had to put our 14 year old cat Purcilla down Friday the 13th of September. We all knew someday this was coming but it still hurts. Thank you for how you handled the situation.
