honestly not really a fan of this place. I got my cat spayed and it ended up being $400 all together which is a lot. I dropped him off in the morning and the vet said he'd probably be ready to go in the evening like 5pm around closing. well I got a call around 1pm saying he's awake and ready to be picked up. This made me a little worried that they didn't give him enough anesthesia, he was absolutely alarmed and in duress whenever I got there. The vet said he might lightly bleed for a few more hours. well 48 hours passed and he was still bleeding quiet a bit. I took a look and honestly, they look like they mangled this poor cat. I had to take him back because I was worried about blood loss. they took a look and said he was fine but it overall was not a very good experience to see your pet in that way. it also seemed like everything costed wayyyy too much money as well. just my experience, hopefully yours is better!

We have taken our dog to South County Vet. practice since we adopted her over 10 years ago. Sadie has always received good care there by the staff and Doctors. She is a small dog, shy and nervous at times but is always handled with a patient and gentle manner by the staff. She recently needed a surgery and Dr. Otis was wonderful before, during and post surgery, offering professional and compassionate care throughout the experience. We highly recommend the South County Veterinary practice in Wakefield.

Dr. Otis is the best and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He has a calm and caring demeanor that is instantly noticeable, by humans and animals alike. I tend to ask a lot of questions and Otis always takes time to answer them and is never glib or dismissive with his responses. More importantly, he is extremely knowledgeable and in my experience goes above and beyond for the animals he cares for. The staff here is also very caring and make visits as painless as possible. My anxious dog enjoys her visits here thanks to the amazing support staff. I saw a review or two complaining about costs here which is confusing. A checkup is expensive, but that is industry standard unfortunately. Nobody is getting shots, a checkup, and basic blood testing for heart worm/tick diseases for under $200 in 2023, doesn't exist. Otis and SCVH have also been kind enough to prescribe certain meds for my dog without a visit. Last year she had a rash and one email later I had the prescriptions with no appointment required. Not saying that they can always do this, but I find SCVH to be willing to work with people on caring for their animal without breaking the bank if possible.

Not the best last few experiences. Starting to show signs of a Money trap. The amount of money that has been spent was not deserving of the amount of work performed. First time, brought dog in a few days after a rabies shot noticed a huge lump. They charged me $72 for a 5 min follow up and blamed it on a bug bite. I asked tech where they issued his rabies shot and was directly where his lump was. I would have been able to save a trip to the vet and $100 if they had given me this info over the phone. Latest, experience brought in for annual shots and check up and dog had spot on him the size of a quarter that was looking infected. Blamed this on a bug bite as well. Charged me extra for a "sick exam" when I was there for a annual checkup anyways. Didn't take any extra time and charged an additional $50 to shave half the hair off his back for an affected area the size of a quarter (clearly a mistake on their part) and "cleansed" area something i could have done myself as well if i had known it would come at a cost like this. You'd think there'd be enough customer service for someone thats been using and trusting them for the last 5 years to waive the $50 mowhawk they gave my dog. Don't let them cut your pets nails either! That's an extra $12 job. Go next door for $5 and they'll do a much better job

Dr. Otis is the best. I have been coming here for a little over a year with my golden retriever and have nothing but good things to say. The staff members are so kind and caring towards Gene Parmesan. One time, He had an eye infection, I called in for an appointment they made room for me that day. They care about animals, and it shows.

Earlier this summer our dog was shaking his head in discomfort. Although our dog has been a patient at South County Veterinary Hospital for several years, we were told he couldn't be seen for 6 weeks. The condition did not improve and we called again but the response was that if you need an earlier appointment, try calling their affiliated vet hospital, Washington County Vet Hospital. They take same day appointments but when we called at 8:15 for several mornings, we were put on a cancellation list for the 1 or 2 same day appointments that were available and never received a call back. We tried other vets with no luck since we were not an existing customer. Several weeks ago, we woke up and our dog was lying down and was struggling to breathe. We frantically called both vet hospitals again with the same responses as above despite pleading that our dog appeared to be dying. As it turned out, our dog did die within the hour. What I can't understand is how two veterinary facilities with "Hospital" in their name won't see an animal in an emergency situation. When we brought our deceased dog to South County Vet Hospital to arrange for cremation, however, the service was very prompt and a sales brochure for various urns was shown to us immediately (along with an invoice to be paid in advance for the cremation). On a positive note, Sarah at South County Vet Hospital was very sincere in expressing her sympathy to us and we appreciated that very much.

Dr. Peter Roy, at South County Veterinary Hospital in Wakefield, RI is dog-lover's (and a dog's) dream of a vet. He provides excellent, thoughtful, and attentive care, and has been our vet for 20 years and 5 dogs, caring for 4 of those from puppyhood right through their last days (the 5th was an old guy already when we moved to RI). Dr. Otis is also tops in genuine caring and knowledgeable and compassionate practice. The entire staff of SCVH is friendly, personable, kind, easy to talk to, knowledgeable, helpful, and lovely people. They really do care personally about the animals in their practice, and are very welcoming. If you love, love, love your pets, this is the place for you; do yourselves and your pets a tremendous service by taking them to these wonderful docs and staff. Bonnie O'C

Dr. Troob cropped my Doberman puppy and, well, a picture is worth a thousand words. Right?!?! This is literally 14 days post surgery. In between posts. What a beautiful job he did!! I’m thrilled with the results. Thank you Dr. Troob & company

excellent veterinarian. Took care of my bloodhound. Took the time to call me back on a question. All the vets at Washington County are the BEST and the tech's and front desk.

This Hospital and Washington County cannot see my dog, who has been in a long line of our dogs who have been patients, because they are too booked. Their suggestion is to go to an emergency hospital where we will have to pay emergency fees. Despite the fact that Dr. Otis, Dr. Roy, and Dr. Greene have been my dogs' doctors for 15 years, they are denying service because they are too booked. Such nice people, so poorly run. Completely unreliable when you truly need them.
