When looking at MCD for my children, I noticed that student ranks seemed to thin after kindergarten, pick up and drop off seemed difficult, and there was a lack of warmth, both toward students and parents. I felt that were public options to improve just incrementally, MCH would cease to exist. Ocean State Montessori in East Providence was the better choice for us.

JUST A CAUTIONARY TALE. My next door neighbor started her 3 year old (read that again, three years old) son at this school in September. Her son had to get corrective surgery on his eye and in turn developed severe motion sickness. The school is a 30 minute car ride from our neighborhood (with traffic) and he would get car sick and vomit half of the mornings he had school. Now, I understand how contracts work, I’m not naive. BUT. This school WOULDN’T make an exception or even TRY to work with my friend in terms of her (and the doctor’s) need to stop torturing her THREE YEAR OLD every morning. It’s a shame. They have to continue to pay monthly payments to this school, even though he only was able to attend for a month and a half, making it impossible for them to afford any sort of alternative.

The administration’s unwillingness to work with a family with a son that had a medical reason he could no longer attend with a physicians note. They are making the family pay the entire school year. Clearly unethical.

They should be ashamed of themselves. This “school” clearly only cares about money and does not care for their students wellbeing whatsoever. I highly do not recommend this school based on what I have found out they have done to my wonderful nephew. Just awful.

WARNING: don't look at the photos if you have a weak stomach (these photos were taken on the ride to school and were shared with MCH as "proof" of his car sickness). Hello everyone.. Sadly I feel the need to write this to warn others about the horrible administration and policies at MCH. Bobby started preschool at Montessori Children's House in Providence, Rhode Island in September. As much as I would like to write a positive review, I cannot as dealing with the school administration over some unexpected issues has been a nightmare. My 3 year old son had eye surgery in July and found out that he would develop severe carsickness when we were commuting 30+ mins in traffic every morning to the preschool. See pictures below. My thought is that the constant stop and go of the traffic, in the setting of him getting adjusted to his new eye muscle balance (after surgery) made him very prone to being car sickness. He vomited about 12 times out of the first 30 school days. When he would start vomiting, it meant that I'd have to figure out what was going on in the back where all three of my kids were (in traffic on the freeway), take the exit, pull around and go home... clean him and his car seat up. It would make us over an hour late for his 3.5 hour program. He had never been car sick before but this was the first time we had consistently been in the car since his eye surgery for 30 mins or more. We felt horrible as he actually enjoyed the school but hated getting into the car every morning knowing what might happen. We eventually stopped sending him after trying every remedy for car sickness under the sun. We asked the school to consider letting us withdraw and wrote multiple letters to that effect. Even our pediatrician wrote letters asking them to let Bobby withdraw from school. After multiple "board meetings", they decided that they need to continue forcing us to pay $700 a month in tuition for the remainder of the school year (he went to school for a total of 6 weeks) even though he is unable to attend. Without going into the details of the back and forth, at one point the school headmistress told us that because we had Bobby going to school while we tried different remedies for the car sickness in the 6 weeks that he attended (a long list of remedies that she, herself, provided us to try), it indicated that the car sickness wasn't a big deal to us and our motives to withdraw were financial in nature. She essentially implied that if we really cared about Bobby, we wouldn't have continued to send him to school. Nothing could have been more insulting to us as parents, especially when we were trying to make things work at MCH and trying car sickness remedies THEY WANTED US TO TRY. We pleaded with them to meet us in the middle, reduce the tuition at least so we can afford to send him to school somewhere closer that doesn't involve a 30 min drive in traffic. We offered them to, of course keep our deposit, plus the tuition from the few weeks he attended, plus an additional amount that they felt fair while they find a replacement for Bobby. After another "board meeting", they rejected us and told us we must still pay for the whole year of tuition. We chose this school because of it's "stellar" reputation of instilling a love of learning. This institution is NOT about instilling a love of learning but a greedy desire to make money even to the detriment of the child's learning. We removed him from the school and are doing our best to educate him at home while exploring other options that we can afford after paying almost $700 a month TO A SCHOOL BOBBY DOESNT ATTEND. How unethical is it for a school to even accept the tuition?! The teachers are great, which is the saddest part in all of this. But I would just like to warn others about this school in the rare case that something unexpected happens along the way. Don't count on them to help you in any way. Thank you for reading.

My daughter (5 y.o) attended MCH for a semester while my husband and I were on sabbatical at Brown. She loved going to school every day, the teachers were amazing, and we met some wonderful families.

Sending my three children to MCH when they were 3 to 9 years old was one of the best decisions we every made. They have been extremely successful in some of the most prestigious private schools in Providence and in the highly-selective colleges they chose to attend, and, most importantly, have grown into wonderful, productive members of their communities and our family. Each attributes a significant portion of her and his successes to the learning they got at MCH. I cannot say enough good things about MCH, with its loving, caring atmosphere where learning happens joyfully.

I know people who are completely devoted to running this school enabling children to become confident young adults and have attended some of their programs which impressed me, a violin teacher for many years and former student of Itzhak Perlman.
