As a first-time visitor to this shop, I was impressed with what the store had to offer. The clearance sale in select sections of the store added an element of excitement to the shopping, and I was pleased to find two gorgeous heels for my sister-in-law. The store's pricing was budget-friendly, and the variety of shoe options as well as sizes available was impressive. The employees were super sweet & welcoming as well as helpful. I loved their positivity and kindness towards the clientele. Overall, my experience at this shop was positive, and I would highly recommend it to others looking for quality shoes at reasonable prices.

What's not to love with Berk's Shoes?! This small but mightly local shoe store has comfortable and stylish shoes and clothing--good prices and friendly staff. Today I was shopping for shoes to wear to my son's wedding. Shantyce was so helpful, patient, spunky, and fun to work with. She even gave me special pads to put into the shoes to ensure the right fit. Highly recommend.-Wendy

This is such a nice shoe store. I often forget that they are there because I really don't go to the city that much. But every time I go I manage to find something that I like. The only problem is that they don't have a huge variety but they do have a nice variety of shoes and sandals. I was looking for some just casual kind of sneakers shoes. Certainly nothing for running but something cool and comfortable to wear during the summer. I found a pair that were actually on sale for a ridiculously good price and so I bought them in two different colors. I am all set for the summer and I am so grateful for the help that I received there. The service was very good and I'm very happy with my purchase

Great low stress shopping experience. Staff were very helpful with getting sizes and suggesting shoes I might like based on what I was looking at. What I bought wasn't on sale, but looks like you can get a hefty discount if you're not too choosy and they have your size!

This is one of my favorite stores on Thayer to pop into. My favorite is to check the sale section, you can score so amazing deals on brand name shoes. Staff is usually ready to assist if you need them, but also gives you breathing room to shop and check things out without pressure. I've actually on purchased one pair of shoes from them. Usually because I am just browsing when I'm in the area. They have lots of new styles and trends so if you're looking for something special, go check them out!

Berk's has been my favorite shoe store for years. Years. So, why only four stars? Recently, the clothing selection seems to be growing and the number and style of shoes on display to be shrinking. As a woman way past college age, the clothing isn't why I shop here. It's delicate dance to be a business located on Thayer Street. You'd assume the target market for customers would be students, but many students can't afford full price stuff (hence, the demise of much of the retail on Thayer and the conversion through the years to mostly national food vendors). As a long-time local purveyor of high quality/fair priced shoes and clothing, Berk's has to realize that the local east side/greater Providence grown-ups are part of their reliable customer base - despite the dearth of and now the fee-based limited parking. Given this, it's tough that Berk's seems to carry much more limited offering in product lines, colors, and size ranges of the go-to shoe brands I shop here for (Doc's, Birkenstock, Sperry, Tom's). Berk's is always willing to place a special order (and will occasionally let you pay upon pick-up, based on the sales clerk who's helping you - and their overall helpfulness can really vary btw); it can be frustrating to special order, wait for delivery, then find you need a different size or width. Still, Berk's has frequent sales and offers a shoe buyer club where after 6 full-priced (or 12 sales-priced) shoes you get one free. And who doesn't love a freebie?
