This bank absolutely sucks. The app has multiple glitches. They also ran a hard inquiry on my credit without my permission. They baited me into opening up 3 accounts with them for some marketing bonus money which they never paid out when I met all the requirements. They also held a check of mine for much longer than the federal requirement before clearing it.. I’ve closed my accounts.

Brandon Matarese and Tom Skala, Manager and warrior banker, worked long and hard getting our accounts sorted out. They persevered through obstacles and got the job done. I can not give them high enough praise and gratitude for their work and professionalism. This is customer service the way it should be. We've been very pleased with Citizens over the years. Although we do the majority of our banking online, when we need to visit this branch, the Branch Manager and rest of the staff are very professional, friendly and helpful.

I have never been treated the way I was treated at Citizens Bank East Main Rd Portsmouth RI. I felt like the movie pretty woman. I'm not a millionaire, but that gives absolutely no right to someone who works in a bank who acts as they above me! Why because she works at a bank? Not a Neurologist mind you. She was condescending from beginning to end! Behind a desk didn't hear a word I said. I closed my account, I made a substantial deposit with a different bankI couldn't believe the it. I'm sure I'm not the only one. What I say may not matter but the fact that a large deposit was made at another bank should!!

Understaffed. One person working the inside of the bank and the teller windows on a Friday afternoon. That is just ridiculous. As a business owner Time is money and I don’t like waiting because the bank is understaffed.

I have had a personal account with Citizens for some time and never had any issues. Years ago, when I had my own business I did my banking for that here as well. We have had a joint account at a different local bank; however, we did not like changes that they are making for cold, impersonal service, and decided to move our joint account here to Citizens. I do not go to the branch often, but when I do I like to be met by a friendly face. That is exactly what we got when we opened our latest account here in Portsmouth. Another advantage of Citizens, is that they have branches open inside Stop and Shop locations even on Sunday (which I have needed for notary services in the past). With continent locations and friendly service, I hope to stay here for many years to come!

Came here on Saturday morning to open a new checking account with my husband. Process was super quick, easy and done in less than 10 minutes! The girl (no name tag) was very friendly and was very welcoming. Looking forward to ditching Bank Newport and their snarly looking tellers!

This citizens bank is always nice and friendly and always willing to help with any problems. They've helped me with problems I had regarding my mobile account. They do try to get you to get credit cards and all that but other than that I would say they're very responsive and helpful.

Citizens Bank should be avoided. Their fees are numerous and high, and they use dishonest trickery to get their customers to pay more fees. My experience is instructive: I had been a good customer for six years, but because of a confluence of events, PayPal pulled money out of my account right before three checks came in to clear. That was right before a holiday, and Citizens was closing early even though the day before the holiday was not a holiday in itself (they shouldn't have done that). As a consequence, I couldn't get money into the bank to cover the checks. The checks then came in to clear in the order of smallest to largest, and I should have been charged one $39 overdraft fee; but Citizens re-ordered the withdrawals from largest to smallest so that I was charged three fees. This is what I mean by "trickery". Only the greediest banks use tricks like that to raise money from their customers. If you are looking for a bank, you would be better off at a savings bank or credit union.

This bank used to be my favorite place to run errands. I opened my first bank account here and all seven tellers knew me and my family well. No matter how long the line got, it moved at the speed of light and the bankers were some of the brightest people you'd ever meet. It's depressing how quickly it all changed. I watched the teller count dwindle from seven to four as the bank kept axing positions. With each teller's departure the line size seemed to double. Finally one day in 2014 they axed all four of them. It was so sad; some of them had been there since the 1980s. With all the tellers gone, they stuck the bankers on teller duty, but that was a total mess with no one to man the banker side. Lines would go out the door as bankers would hop around from counter to counter trying to keep the place afloat. Eventually the bankers all grew frustrated and quit; I can't say I blame them. The last banker there I would consider truly brilliant left in 2014. Everyone working here since then has been pretty low quality. Mostly former clothing store floor clerks and cell phone salespeople. Apparently they'll hire anybody with a pulse now. The job turned into a cookie cutter sales job and it shows. It's definitely not a sign of the times though. I switched banks and my new bank reminds me of everything I loved about Citizens 20 years ago. Unfortunately Citizens bank is now run by pirate who are slicing the company apart to make profits appear greater so they can cash out and sell to another crook who will pick at the remains. My heart goes out to the handful of die hard caring employees who are riding out the storm until retirement.
