Very inconvenient. If you don't live in Downtown Newport you have to fight the foot traffic. I wish they never closed the branch on Valley rd.Middletown, RI.

This branch of Santander bank in Newport is one of the most convenient for locals and tourists. It's located in the heart of Thames street where most of the main restaurants, shops and bars are located. I went to use their ATM but the location also offers in person branch banking services. Santander Bank, formerly Sovereign Bank, is an American bank operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Spanish Santander Group. It is based in Boston and its principal market is the northeastern United States. It has $57.5 billion in deposits, operates about 650 retail banking offices and over 2,000 ATMs, and employs approximately 9,800 people. If you are in Newport and need to find this bank, it's located a few blocks west of the Post Office building.

I have been using Santander online bank to pay my mortgage since 2004. I used online banking as I usually do to pay my mortgage and it never went through and I received a late charge from my mortgage company. The mortgage payment was shown on my online account as being withdrawn on time as it always is from my account. I went to the Newport branch and spoke to both a Banker and Branch Manager. They told me they would look into it. After several calls to them with detailed information on my side, they finally told me there was nothing they could do. And the banker was confused as to what I was asking from her. Very frustrating. I do not trust their online banking and the Newport branch did not help me after a lot of time on my part trying to explain the situation to them. I will be changing banks very soon.
