We loved our stay here in July! The room was clean and spacious. Service was incredible and I still think about the delicious breakfast we had every morning! Easy walking distance from everything and access to public transportation. Would definitely recommend staying here!!

A charming historic property in an excellent location on Bellevue Avenue. Close to everything. The rooms or at least our room had not been renovated in decades and smelled musty and old. The suite was spacious with a large bathroom. The finishes were old like the pine top to the sink vanity. The modern sink placed above the vanity splashed on all the sides onto the pine top keeping it constantly wet. The shower was an acrylic one piece - kind of a downgrade for $533/ night. There was double stick tape from an older tray in the shower left on the walls. The bed area AC was an old fashioned through the wall unit and very loud constantly waking you up when it kicked on. The curtains on the windows didn't operate. The housekeeping staff didn't regularly provide additional towels nor take dirty dishes and glassware away. This definitely diminished the quality of the stay. Apon check-Inn the women was curt, indifferent and not very welcoming. This suite is located right off the parking lot and very poorly lit. The security was one dead bolt from a very inexpensive builder special hardware set, easily broken into. I would say despite the charm invest your vacation dollars elsewhere. Also for a traveling person or couple there was no safe in the room for valuables with the entire property dimly lit. Happy hour and breakfast was elegantly done affording an opportunity to meet new people and enjoy an historic property.

Adored this place! Will be back. We did have a small, non-frightening paranormal experience in room 2 Carrie In Paris suite. The breakfast is stellar. Cannot wait to return.Rooms: Clean, well-appointed. Individual style.Nearby activities: Close to everything.Food & drinks: BEST breakfast.

Beautiful and loved everything…but the bed was terribly hard and messed up my back for three days.

We loved our stay here!! The hosts could not have been nicer or more accommodating and the breakfast, cocktail hour spread and fresh baked cookies at night were outstanding. Everyone who works there was so kind and the staff remembered all the guests little preferences! The rooms and bathroom were beautiful and it was lovely to sit on the patio and read and sit at breakfast and talk with other lovely (vaccinated) guests. The bathtub with jets was an extra bonus!!! Towels were soft and bed was extremely comfortable. The location was perfect and most activities and hot spots were within walking distance! Only two very small complaints. The AC unit was very loud and kept us up the first night. Luckily the next night the room was cold enough by the time we went to bed so we didn’t need it. The second complaint was just that the lighting in the bathroom could have been better above the sink - it is set back and above the cabinet which blocks the light coming down. Other than these tiny issues, we adored HH and would absolutely stay there again when we return. Thank you for hosting us!!

My husband and I stayed at the Hydrangea House Inn over Labor Day weekend. We checked in on Friday and out on Monday.A few things are fantastic about this Bed and Breakfast, the location, the breakfast and the free parking! A few other nice things that the B&B includes are a daily wine and cheese happy hour at 4:00, cookies provided at the turndown service, water and sparkling water provided in your room each day with housekeeping. The service is spot on as well, some people do not like B&B's because the owners or managers are in your business; here, they are there to help but not crowd. The decor and rooms are nice but definitely not high end. This is why I did not give 5 stars. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely stay again but it's not a 5-star stay.

Great place. The location is excellent to walking to the cliff walk, mansions, and the downtown wharf area. Breakfast was delicious. All inn staff were polite, pleasant and helpful. We packed many activities into our stay and it was always nice coming back to our suite. We stayed in the winter garden suite and absolutely loved the space, not too Victorian in decor, huge bathroom/steam room, sitting area fire place ( not needed in August but I imagine so cozy in colder months) sky lights made it bright, and it had a semi private deck with comfy seating. The suite was comfortably cool with the window unit air conditioner. Comfortable bed -the only need for improvement were the bed pillows. They need replacement for it to be 100% awesome- as it was still 95% awesome. *Note- we did stay in the Carrie in Paris suite for an added on night and I felt that room honestly needs updating.

Beautiful place, excellent location, and the breakfast was good. Now for the not so good. The bed had a dip in the middle and the steam shower was broken. We had a view of the dumpster and the screen door had a hole. Our toilet rocked back and forth. You will see in one picture the dust and dirt I cleaned off of the AC filter. As a whole it was a lovely place. I know that they have beautiful rooms but unfortunately we did not get one. I feel for what we paid the amenities that were advertised should be functional.

We stayed in the Verandah Room which is one of the Inn’s standard rooms. It was perfect for our needs, located in back of the Inn with a private entrance overlooking the gardens. The room was decorated beautifully, very clean and comfortable with a large steam shower. We enjoyed the breakfast with the opportunity to meet other guests, wine and cheese in the afternoon to prepare for the evening and the wonderful cookies left on the bed each night. There is on site parking, but the Inn is within walking distance of restaurants and attractions. We only used our car one time to do Ocean Drive. The staff is friendly offering suggestions on restaurants and local attractions. We throughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning to explore all Newport has to offer!

My wife and I loved our recent stay at the Hydrangea House! Normally I stay in name-brand hotel's for work travel and my wife and I usually stay in AirBnb's, so I was a little hesitant to stay here but the reviews and pictures were great. I read some of the 1 star reviews and I understand some of what they were complaining about, but honestly if you came to Newport to watch tv then you need to go somewhere else and if the HVAC unit isn't working great in your room, then you must not be used to staying in hotels as they are never great.Keep in mind that most of this info is based on a specific room on the first floorI'll start with the "needs improvement"-The rooms are a little dated compared to a new Hilton/Marriott property. The hotel itself is in a historic home, so it is not going to be built like a brand new building and some of the fixes may be very challenging and expensive to make.-20 minutes with a magic eraser on the walls would really help to improve the look of the room-The outlet plugs seemed a little looseReasons to stay here-I never sleep well in hotels and my wife and I slept great here! The bed seemed a little old, but honestly it must have been the most high end you can buy because it slept GREAT!-The room was on the first floor, but in the back of the hotel and we didn't hear any road traffic or passersby-You still get a daily turndown service (unlike most hotel chains now) and they leave cookies, bottled water, and Pellegrino.-The breakfast was delicious! I refuse to eat the "cooked" breakfasts at hotel chains, but this was awesome - pancakes/french toast, sausage/bacon, omelette/poached/souffle eggs and excellent coffee-The service was top notch. I don't know the last time you stayed in a chain hotel, but most of the employees there could care less whether you had good stay. The service at Hydrangea House was PHENOMENAL (especially Mike and the lady that was hosting breakfast). We truly felt like they cared about the quality of our stay.-The location was excellent and a 10 minute walk everywhere. I know some of the reviews complained about the price, but I thought it was very well priced for the location in town.-Cleanliness - I believe you pay for cleanliness, as a lot of hotels have the same accommodations, but the nicer ones are usually cleaner. I think some people may mistake old for dirty. I never saw anything that made me think that this hotel was dirty. If you want to see some bad hotels, look at my other reviews.Overall, this stay has had a significant impact on the way my wife and I will travel. I will start looking for BnB's instead of chain hotels and AirBnb's when we're on vacation! Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hydrangea House on your next visit to Newport!

I cannot say enough good things about this fantastic B&B in Newport.I am more of a chain hotel person than a B&B person, but my experience at the Hydrangea House was incredible. The hotel is conveniently located and near at lot of great Newport restaurants and sights. They have parking behind the inn which is super convenient. We stayed in the Oak Suite and it was amazing. So romantic! A huge room with our own private entrance. Comfy king sized bed and mini fridge. Bathroom was ginormous with shower/sauna and whirpool tub.Staff was super friendly and the food was sooo good. Breakfast was incredible. Food is clearly cooked with love and made to order. I also really enjoyed the wine and cheese in the afternoons and had a great time sitting in the parlor and enjoying the happy hour.We will definitely be returning and are looking forward to our next stay!

We have been looking forward to a getaway for....ever it seems, and we still aren't comfortable getting on public transportation quite yet. We love Newport, and have family in the area, and go to Newport quite a bit. The Hydrangea House has been on my radar since my last stay in Newport and I made the reservations nearly a year ago. In that time between making the reservation and going we got engaged, and as such I called to change my reservation to ask them to add the honeymoon package to our room. I asked at the time if I needed to let them know in advance what restaurant we wanted the gift certificate to be to, and was told not necessary. We could let them know when we got there. I got a revised folio after changing the reservation and responded asking again when we would need to let them know where we wanted the gift certificate to be for. I did not get a response. A few days before we were set to go a got a call as a reminder of the reservation. I asked again about the restaurant and was told that it was for one of three (excellent) eateries they have partnered with. As frequent visitors to Newport we like to eat at different places each time. Not only that, but trying to make reservations at a good restaurant in Newport 4th of July week a few days in advance would be hopeless. I had booked our itinerary weeks and a few things even months in advance. The hotel did without question remove the $75 for the restaurant from my bill. Similarly the package allows you one pass for two people to a mansion in Newport, but they only offer it for The Breakers. These things should be stated on the website with the packages. We planned on going to The Breakers on this trip anyway, so not an issue for us, but perhaps for someone else. I'm surprised they haven't encountered this issue before. Really, just add that info to the website and people don't have to keep asking or get a surprise. Other than that the B&B is mostly great. We stayed in The Garden Gate Suite which is extremely well appointed, large, clean, and overall an excellent room to stay in. Our ONLY issue with the room was that we could hear everything going on above us. I don't know if the people staying in that room were very noisy or if the floors just allow for you to hear everything going on, but when we were in our room and they were in there room we could hear everything they did. When they walked we knew it. When they dropped something that sounded like a bowling ball at 1 AM we were awoken by it. The wine and cheese hour should be stricken from the website and never mentioned. If you aren't going to do something right don't do it at all. It was a really sad tray of crackers, one kind of cheese, one kind of salami and two carafes of wine. Just sitting open in a very dark room. Really sad looking (especially during a pandemic). We only went the first night, so perhaps it was just an off evening, but wasn't worth checking out again. So, I know this sounds like I'm complaining, but honestly other than those things this B&B was flawless. The breakfasts were delicious. The staff ALL were super friendly and helpful. It's spotless and cozy, and in an excellent location if you want to tour all around Newport. There is a LOT of competition in Newport, and I've stayed at quite a few of them, and this is one of my faves so far. I am terrible with names, so I can't name anyone specifically, but the really friendly staff makes a difference. Also, the delicious breakfasts make up for the lack of luster in the wine and cheese hour by far. I would recommend The Hydrangea House to anyone without reservation, but I would tell them to ask for a room on the second floor. Other than the noise from above I wouldn't let anything else get in the way of staying here.

We stayed in the French Country room for 2 nights. It is one of three standard, smaller rooms, as compared to suites in the rest of the inn. We found it charming and certainly roomy enough. The bathroom was large with a fantastic shower and every amenity. The inn is housed in a beautiful restored building on Bellevue Avenue. The location is very good; walking distance to several restaurants on Bellevue, about an 8 minute walk down to the shops and restaurants on Thames Street (unfortunately the walk back is uphill, making it a little more taxing). We did the walk once, then drove to restaurants and the mansions on Bellevue, convenient to do because they have a parking lot at the rear of the property, crucial in Newport. The staff is friendly and professional, offering helpful tips on restaurants and sightseeing. A terrific 3 course breakfast is included, with a creative menu (mango pancakes, delicious and something I hadn’t had before). From 4 to 6 p.m. they offer wine and cheese board, and turndown service includes delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies. If you like vintage charm and amenities, with modern comforts, I highly recommend Hydrangea House Inn!
