Emily gave me the BEST hair style ever! It grew out beautifully! Ready to have another trim and sure hope she's available. I come from Maine to see her. My 2 sisters have gone to her for over 40 years and their hair always looks great!

Emily, the owner and Lead Stylist, is not only excellent in cutting and coloring, she makes you feel special...just like you lived in a Newport Mansion in your previous life! She has a very loyal clientele and also takes care of many international sailors from all over the world. They all know to go to Fine Line. It is located on Lower Thames at 557, right behind Team One, close to Zeldas and within walking distance of New York Yacht Club.

Emily has been cutting my hair for years and always does an amazing job! It's a small shop but she's attentive and never rushes through the service. She's prompt with scheduling and takes the time to ask me what I want. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because I like to pay for most services with a credit card and she doesn't accept charge.

I have been seeing Emily for years now. She is an excellent judge of what styles will look good, and as a regular, will even stop me if I ask for something in the heat of being sick of my hair that she know I won't like or won't be attractive on me. I highly reccommend this salon for friendliness, style and service.

I was in town for the boat show on our sail boat and needed a hair cut desperately! My moral was in the dumps cause my hair was a hot mess! I wanted an inexpensive wash cut dry within walking distance and I looked on Yelp, but everywhere I called was 50 bucks and up. Fine Line Hair Design was on the list but no reviews. I called anyway and talked to Dana who was very nice and said a wash cut dry and style was going to be $37 so I made an appt for the next morning at 10:30! I was a little concerned that since there were no reviews that maybe this was a place for the grey haired ladies and asked if they did contemporary cuts. That seemed to throw her because of course they do, but had never been asked that. My specialty is asking dumb questions it seems. Anyway the next morning I was running late because we were setting up for the show and Dana had no problems seeing me at 11. When I got there, it was a bright airy space and Dana greeted me warmly and offered me coffee which had real creamer and splenda, and not too weak, yay since I hadn't had time to get a cup earlier. I had looked for hairstyles the night before on my iPad and wanted a medium multilayered cut and Dana said great and Emily I think the owner came over and they both oohed and ahhhed over the pictures and that those styles would look great on me and just boosted my confidence in general! Very nice greeting! They really made me feel comfortable and welcomed! Sometimes salons are so darn snotty they make me feel worse fir going in there!!!! So Dana is a great listener. Hair stylists are like bartenders in that they have to listen to their clients' issues du jour. We had a very lovely visit while she was sculpting my hair. I was nervous because I have hair I can really straighten and then if I use a diffuser it gets ringlets and I was a little worried about the layers, but she kept reassuring me and I was able to tell her exactly what I wanted without her getting all defensive like other stylists I have been to before. I should have taken a picture because it turned out great! A little shorter than I wanted but I asked for a shorter look and it will grow out very nicely!! My hubby LOVED it and he normally could could give a rat's ass about my hair!!! He is bald...LOL We come through Newport every 6 months so I will be coming back to Dana!! Emily is also very good too! They take walk ins too!

After years of searching for a cut that flatters my face and personality I finally tried my mother's hair dresser, Emily at Fine Line. Who knew she would give me that cut!?! No need to pay $75 in NYC for one that falls short. I find a way to see Emily when I'm in Rhode Island. Since Emily also gives my mother her perfect cut, I can vouch for her ability to cut curly and straight hair.
