“First, I wish I could give Grenon's TEN STARS!. I live in NY and a few years ago visited Newport, RI. I came upon Grenon's of Newport, a fine jewelry and watch retailer. I was not in the market nor thinking of making any purchases. My wife Amy and I were recently engaged at the time. I always liked fine watches, just did not own any. Ray and his wife were lovely. Showed me several watches - I was just browsing. I tried on a Chronoswiss watch - it was beautiful. Next think I knew, Amy purchased it for me as an engagement gift (sorry guys, Amy is taken!).
Ray made the sale seamless. I enjoyed the watch for a couple of years until I began having some issues with it keeping correct time. Ray was always there to help me troubleshoot. Then the watch kept stopping at a certain time. Again, Ray helped me troubleshoot. When demagnitization wasn't helping, Ray asked me to ship it to him. The watch was just out of warranty by a few months. I shipped the watch to Ray. Ray did everything in his power to try to get the watch running using local resources to save me what would be a long delay and an expensive repair bill from the manufacturer. Remember I said "EXPENSIVE."
Ray then contacted me to inform me that he did everything in his power but the watch needed to go to Switzerland for repair. He prepared me for a long wait. Throughout the repair, he stayed in contact with me. Ray then discovered that about two weeks of the delay was due to an error in shipping the watch made by a long time employee. He did not have to tell me that but he took ownership of his portion of the delay, which was really inconsequential in the end.
THe watch was finally returned to him by Chronoswiss. Ray promptly returned the watch to me, wound and time and date properly set. What Ray did not give me is a bill! He absorbed the entire cost of the repair himself because he felt bad for the delay which was not his fault anyway!!!!
When I make my next watch purchase, the way it will happen is I will call Ray and purchasse the watch from him. There will be no calling other retailers. Post sale service like this is so rare and so extraordinary that you cannot put a price on it. REmember, cheap becomes expensive later on!”
