“I recently had the pleasure of visiting Kristen Coates Gallery, and I must say, it was an absolutely enchanting experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by an ambiance that exuded creativity and sophistication. “This is such a rare treasure of a collection. Anne is a second generation print collector and so knowledgeable. We saw so many special illustrations and held centuries old artworks. Newport is wonderful and we had such a lovely weekend but this is the absolute highlight. Love, will return and could have spent the whole day here”
“This store was a great find. Owner Deborah was very attentive to assist our group. We focused on the Italian leather bags in many styles and brilliant colors. New styles and colors often and they are displayed in the window. There is a corner at the back of the store for a sale area as well. Other items include jewellery and various items but we hardly had time for a look there. Great store.”
“Everyone at this gallery was immensely helpful and kind!! I came in and was surprised to find the largest collection of one of my favorite artists, William Trost Richards! The staff were so well informed and helpful and polite. I highly recommend this gallery!”
“Hera Gallery is an amazing place to see art, learn something new, support local business, support women run non-profit, get inspired, and meet the artists. For artists, it is a great place to experiment with some cutting edge ideas in a supportive environment or find a community to engage and share the ideas with.”
“Very nice art with some with themes and boats from the Newport area. The tables made out of wood are wonderful. The craftsman of the tables spent a lot of time explaining this work answering questions. Purchased a table and in my case was able to decide on what type of legs. Shipping is also a option also.”

“This past week I had the pleasure of taking a photo into Picture This for proper framing. The skilled work was completed the next day and I was contacted to come in for the pickup. While in the store, I walked by a beautiful watercolor print by James Early that was attractive to me the moment I saw it. As I continued visiting with Donna, the very friendly and helpful person I was working with, I was drawn into the print, and eventually came back the next day to buy it. What a pleasure it was to have enjoyed the personal service, the quality framing, and the beautiful variety of art for sale. So grateful that this special place is just a short walk from my home.”
“I went for a creativity discussion, I met some great people and left feeling inspired ✨️ everyone was very nice. I also browsed the art for sale. I hope to join and take a class.”
10AM - 4PM
210 Thames St, Newport“A taste of the past Scrimshaw is the art of carving on bones, teeth, baleen and tusks of animals. It really developed in the early 19th century on whaling ships in the Pacific Ocean and helped the sailors pass away the long hours in distant lands. Most of it was never signed and has been called the only original American art form. A Scrimshander is a person who makes scrimshaw and that's the name of this unique store. They have some of the most exquisite scrimshaw imaginable, using ancient walrus and mammoth tusks and various elephant and certain sperm whale teeth. The Marine Mammal Protection Act forbids any whale teeth harvested after 1973 to be used but the items made before this time can be sold and worked on. Scrimshanders meticulously keeps track of every item they sell and will give you a detailed history of it's source. They also have polymer reproductions and will do extremely fine restoration work on existing scrimshaw. Besides scrimshaw the store also have a fine selection of Nantucket Baskets. The baskets are finely weaved, decorative items that were first crafted by men struck on the stationary lightships to help keep from going absolutely bonkers. Some of the baskets are so delicate they look like they can be crushed in your hands and come in all different sizes. Lots of amber jewelery, frames, greeting cards, lighthouse models, Xmas ornaments and fantastic sculptured models and drawings of beautiful sea birds are displayed and just about any type of nautical artwork is available. This is a great store for anyone interesting in art, history or nautical crafts. If you want something unique, historic and at the same time absolutely beautiful this store is worth checking out. Just make sure you bring a fat wallet because fine art like this doesn't come cheaply.”
