The owner David completely lied to me about an old Japanese katana type sword I brought him.
He knew I was trying to pay rent that night and he was the only one open. I asked him to appraise and authenticate The Sword and he fed me a whole bunch of lies about it that turned out to make me feel like a complete moron after the fact because I believed him when he told me my sword was inauthentic because the handle was snakeskin.
he then told me that there are no snakes in Japan at all whatsoever, which I believed because who would make up something like that? he also pretended the bamboo Peg was broken because he wanted to avoid taking off the handle because when he saw what I had he realized it was a very rare once in a lifetime piece.
he completely took advantage of my situation. give me I think 350$ for it after pointing out an entire list of lies that he said made it inauthentic. one of those lies being that the blade must have been broken and chipped and then cut and sharpened down to hide the damage, (also keeping in mind the blade was a flawless. perfect) which I later found out you cannot do. the only way to shorten them is to cut the metal part of the blade that is under the handle. if you break or chip the blade and try to sharpen it out the blade will never look like a blade again because of the process they use to make the blade. I didn't know what I was doing and I trusted him.
there was nothing I could do because at that point it's word against word, I signed accepted his cash and left.
it's been 2-3 years since this happened and it is the single most gut-wrenching regretful feeling I've ever felt in my life.
especially when I visited a long time veterans museum curator and showed him pictures of the piece, and he told me it could have potentially been worth up to $100,000. but without having it in front of him he can't say for sure. what he did say for sure is that I got ripped off and that it was worth thousands at the very least.
DO NOT TRUST THIS GUY!!
he's very good at making you feel good he's very good at making you feel comfortable he knows how to talk to people and make them feel like he's the nicest honest guy.
all that wealth and he has to rip off some poor kid who should have had the break of a lifetime. fact of the matter is there's more than 40 species of snakes in Japan so there is no misunderstanding here he is a straight-up liar and a rip off

Dave has some fantastic deals! I have an autistic 10 year old that obsessively collects coins he absolutely loves this shop. There's always a good selection of coins that are really cool, but also under $10 (perfect fit a 10 year old working on a budget). Every time we go, we find stuff that's unique yet affordable. It's a great store!

David is a wealth of knowledge. I purchased a set of 15 Morgan dollars from eBay, (buyer's beware) and needed a second opinion from a professional on what I received.
