I've been visiting the Umbrella Factory every summer since I was a small child. It has changed a lot and very little at the same time, as paradoxical as that sounds. The newer owners have done a lot to improve the grounds, and it shows .. due to social media exposure it is no longer the "hidden gem" it once was. Excluding the art, the shops in general are full of kitschy items that can be purchased elsewhere for a fraction of the cost and most of the employees are cold and unwelcoming. The garden shop is quite nice with some unique plants and interesting garden sculptures, however their prices are outrageous for late July when the growing season is over. The only shop sincerely worth visiting is Block Island Prints, the owner is very personable and down to earth. Overall .. the Umbrella Factory is worth visiting to stroll the gardens and get that nostalgic "Old South County" vibe but it certainly has lost the charm and appeal it once had.

This is my favorite place to shop when we drive through Charlestown. They had baby goats today that were with George (the emu) and they were just chillin out. The chickens were out and were large in numbers today. They have such a huge variety of them too. The shop workers here have to be the friendliest people. From the general store to the candy shop to the garden. I just wish everything was open on Mondays. We did miss seeing some things because of it. I def recommend going here if you are in the area. Expect to spend at least an hour exploring the stores and garden and animal areas.

Has lots of great shops. Walk through the bamboo forest, check out the green houses with so many plants and flowers.
