I had the unfortunate experience of being a member at this particular YMCA, and I feel compelled to share my rather disappointing experience, especially when it comes to their gym facilities.First and foremost, let's talk about their so-called "renovations." These are nothing more than thinly veiled attempts to squeeze extra money out of their members. The gym equipment remains unchanged, unimproved, and outdated. It's as if they move things around just to create an illusion of improvement. It's a classic bait-and-switch tactic.Furthermore, the gym itself is cramped and undersized. During peak hours, you'd be lucky to find a spot to work out without bumping into someone or feeling like you're in the middle of a sardine can. The lack of space and overcrowding make for a far from enjoyable gym experience. But the cherry on top is the group of high school freshmen who frequent the gym. They congregate around the bench press, strutting their stuff and attempting to show off their nonexistent strength. It's clear they're there to boost their egos, not to genuinely work out. It's beyond annoying and frustrating to deal with their antics. And then, there's the creepy individual who seems to have taken up residence in the gym. This man looks disheveled, smells unpleasant, and engages in the oddest exercises. What's even more concerning is the way he stares at everyone, making gym-goers extremely uncomfortable. I've heard stories of him exhibiting the same behavior at other local gyms, raising concerns that this is more than just a gym etiquette issue and might warrant the attention of local authorities. In summary, my experience at this YMCA, especially concerning the gym, has been nothing short of exasperating. I'd advise anyone considering a membership to think twice and explore other options that prioritize their members' actual fitness needs and comfort over profit.

Beautiful indoor pool with people who know how to share lanes and lifeguards who care about the members.

For a town like Barrington, I expected more. The workout facilities are stuffed into the cellar like an afterthought. There’s hardly any natural light there. You feel like you are on top of each other When you are using the equipment. One visit to the Newport YMCA and you will see all you are missing. From clean, wide open workout spaces with beautiful views to hot/dry saunas, etc.

The swim lessons here are amazing with Miss Sara, my 3 year old special needs son does extremely well especially after being abandoned by his last swim school, she is so great with him and very patient, so glad I found this place, everyone seems very friendly and it's kept so clean

The gym rules are crazy if you're under 16. One of the staff members in the gym will yell at you if you even set a foot in the free weights section. One time she had me move a bench to the other side of the gym causing an even bigger distraction and annoyance than if she had just let me in the free weights area to do dumbbell bench presses. Although some of the staff are nice, there are some that are just too crazy and want to use their power to have Dominance over you. Not worth the 40 dollars a month if you are just going for the gym.

Tired and in need of overhaul. The restrictions on pool use make it barely available to someone who works. we can't all swim at 5 am. The classes are monopolized by the same group of people whom staff set up for the next class before you can get scheduled. We left after 14-15 years. Convenient but too bad.

This is the worst YMCA Branch around. Their staff is so rude and not to mention their summer staff. I have seen and heard summer staff drinking the night before and coming in hung over. I have heard stories that their was vaping going on. I would never send my kid here. Their summer camp is poorly run and they do not care about the kids. The camp director is impossible to get in touch with. Awful place!!!! Go to other camps and avoid using this facility!!!!!

A really good establishment. Gym is usually not that crowded, locker rooms are modern and clean, pool is well organized. Only problems are that front desk rarely makes me scan in with my membership. I've seen them not speak up as many people slip by in front of their eyes without scanning their card. Makes me feel like I shouldn't be paying if everyone else is getting away with it. Also basketball court is very crowded during afternoons and evenings, and all day on weekends. It's fine to shoot around in but don't expect to have enough court room to play pickup with your friends. Can't blame them for the latter though.

The GRIT classes are the best workout and overall fitness class I have ever experienced. I appreciate all of the classes I have taken at the Y here, but this goes to another level. I especially recommend the GRIT Challenge that I took part in this spring. Do it if it is repeated next year! It is a blast. Thanks to Danee and Mike for their inspiration and support.
