A gem of a property hidden in the rolling hill of central Pennsylvania. This quaint and cozy Bed & Breakfast, built in 1907, is uniquely positioned at the corner of the historic Williamsburg's High and Union Streets. Strategically positioned at the epicenter of this gentle community, The Blue Lantern boasts a view unsurpassed by any in the local area - The Williamsburg Pond and Race. The serenity of this never-freezing 52 degree year-around pond which is fueled by a natural well on the other side of the Union Bridge is a sight for guests and the community alike. Travelers and families from miles around come to feed the trophy rainbow trout (some measure over 28" in length) and the many families of ducks which the caretaker of the property so meticulously cares for. The pond itself showcases one of the most clean bottom floors you will ever see, allows for a calming and tranquility observation experience like no other. I asked the keeper of the Blue Lantern how he keeps the pond so clean to which he showed me a home built brushing apparatus combined with a high power pump and series of interconnected hoses (and of course he jokes, many hours of wearing waders/hip boots). The exterior of the property is meticulously groomed by the owners year-around and an unrelenting professional staff of locals who ensure the grass is checkerboard mowed, every inch of snow is always removed, and guests can safely come and go as they please. The pond itself is only overshadowed by the true elegance of this 18th century 4-bedroom structure which the guest have the pleasure of resting their weary heads from travel or a reprieve from their daily adventures. The Blue Lantern maintains the rustic creativity from its original builders combined with modern 220/221 electrical wiring, four different types of beds ranging in firmness, two recently renovated bathrooms (with a refurbished original bath tub) and a thermostat which the guests are allowed to set to a temperature of their liking. The walls have either been freshly refinished in the original wall designs and patterns or painted to maintain its nostalgic heritage. The icing on top of this proverbial cake can be credited to the extravagant culinary prowess of the owner and her breakfast menu. From Texas style sourdough French Toast to brisket & eggs, no ingredient is spared (including such high end products such as Kerrygold irish butter and gormet coffee & creamers) in ensuring there is no better way for each guest to start their day. I would like to personally thank the owners of the Blue Lantern for an incredible recent stay, and ensure that my time spent with them will certainly lead my life path back to their utopic domicile. I hope I was able to capture just a few of the myriad of highlights and majestic beauty which encompass the true experience that is The Blue Lantern Bed & Breakfast in YOUR Williamsburg, PA.
