Things are not easy out there for animals right now. It is comforting to hear there are no-kill shelters available in a community. I would not recommend the New Pike County Humane Society though. I don't know how they treat animals, but if how they treated people is an indicator then I would not advise anyone seeking help to work with them.
I'm not from Pike County, but my Mom is and sadly, she has been diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer's. Mom has always rescued animals. She currently has three - maybe four - cats that she rescued.
As her mental health has declined, she is no longer able to care for the cats or stay at home. I have cancer and have had two stem cell transplants and am unable to take care of them for her. Also living hours away does not help.
I was assured by Pike County's Agency on Aging that the New Pike County Humane Society would help me. I was so relieved. This is my Mom's biggest concern and I promised her I'd find them homes.
There is so much to do when someone can no longer care for themselves. And being sick myself, it is even that more overwhelming. I feel so alone with no other family to help me, help my Mom. And these cats need saving and fast. Mom had started hoarding things and it's not an environment for the cats and it's unsafe for me to be in. Thankfully not garbage, but supplies - including cat food and litter which I was happily going to donate along with a monetary donation to the Humane Society.
However, the Humane Society not only didn't help, but didn't even respond to my desperate attempts at asking for help via email and phone calls. Only after I posted an ask on social media for someone to help me in the community did a rep for the society respond saying they are full and did reply to my email. I searched my emails all kinds of ways, but there is zero response.
Not only do they not care about these cats, they have zero empathy or compassion toward people going through some hard times. I know shelters are full. I guess a response was too much. And then a lie about it to save face when I said publicly they had not responded.
I don't like to leave bad reviews, but maybe I can save someone time if they are in a desperate situation and hoping for some help to look elsewhere.
And if you are a potential donor, you should rethink whether this is the best place for your support. I always give back to the places that really help the community and in my experience, this is not one of them.

They are in the process of renovations and will gladly accept food, gloves, pads, litter, blankets, towels, and other items. They have a drop box there to place items in.

I’ve tried calling multiple times on multiple occasions looking for information on pets for adoption and never got an answer. Even left messages with no response. For a place trying to find homes for pets you’d think they would answer the phone during the 4 hours they are open.

Humane Society of Pike County is a blessing, in that they are so generous as to team with T.A.R.A. (The Animal Rights Alliance) of Middletown, NY, to bring sorely needed Low-Cost Spay & Neuter services to the communities of NEPA. Thank you for all that you do!

These people are a monopoly! They some how get dogs and cats that already have homes just pick/ steal them from our yards Ect. and then turn around and sell them!!!If you have a dog ? or a cat that suddenly diapers and you contact them in hopes that they found your pet!!! Know that they'll NOT tell you!!They took our cats just for being out side had to fight to get them back!! they get paid additional money for each animal that they pick up no matter who it belongs to.... they're a BIG Business!! Imagine getting 300-$500 per each dog and then again from the county ,in addition to the yearly income that they get from the allocated founds from tax payer found set aside for 'this Big Business! ...And the state alow this practice as a Non profits org. They should All be sued!!

Extremely understanding and well organized. This facility could really use more local support and advertisement. There are very very good animals that need homes whether temporary or permanent. Donations I am sure would be welcome aswell
