“I happened to be in the area of the 3400 block of Sansom Street today in West Philadelphia and a familiar sign caught my eye from 22 years ago; Avril 50. Avril 50 was a regular stop in my patrol days and I loved walking into the shop. Always the wonderful aroma of brewing coffees and chocolate dancing with other exotic smells and the smells of fine papers and magazines. It always felt to me like stepping from West Philadelphia into a magical pocket of Europe. As it looked exactly the same, I wondered if anything had changed in the past 22 years and as soon as I crossed the threshold, I found that it was the same - like stepping back 22 years, yet somehow I was that much older. The proprietor was still there, still the same and looking no different - something that confirmed my belief that this was a magical and wonderful pocket paradise tucked away on a small West Philadelphia street. A brief catch-up chat, a shopping bag of fine teas and a perfectly brewed double-espresso to takeaway later; I stepped back into the bright Fall sun of West Philadelphia. I found myself smiling as I sipped the espresso, happy that one of the best things for me in that neighborhood has remained unchanged for others to enjoy and to continue to discover. It will not be another 22 years before I make my way back - that is for certain.”

“Me and Harry's go way back but I hadn't been there in a while. The "new" location definitely works! The selection is still top notch and the service excellent. The upstairs lounge is more than worth the basically 2 cigar minimum purchase (technically a $25 minimum cigar purchase regardless of how many cigars). Comfortable chairs, nice electric fireplace, beverages and BYO and the Game is typically on one of the two TV's which aren't super loud - it's nice to actually have a conversation or a quiet smoke.Speaking of a good smoke, the ventilation is excellent, which means you not only have comfort but get to truly enjoy "your" cigar. That selection I mentioned is a very good one. The humidor is very well stocked and covers every palate from the newbie to the true connoisseur.I'm biased but speaking as objectively as possible, it's one of the best little cigar shops in the US.”

I was pleasantly surprised to find a great selection of hard to find or otherwise sold out pipe tobacco, like Carolina Red Flake, and at good prices. Dave was wonderfully accommodating and knowledgeable, particularly with recommending new (to me) tobaccos. He introduced me to the world of Mac Baren. I look forward to stopping here on my next trip to Philly!”

“They come through super clutch every time I've ever used them. I recently started using puffco products, and my atomizer broke. I knew they sold puffco rigs, but did not think they had all the accessories you need as well, and they were fully stocked!! I thought for sure it would have been more money to buy the puffco there than ordering online, but I highly regret not using them as they offer the same price as puffco and stand by their products! As a local, this is hugee!! Instead of waiting until the wknd to use my peak again, it's back in action better than ever with a new atomizer and dish at the best price possible. They have a wide selection of all e rigs and lots of other cool stuff! Best in the Roxborough/ manayunk area! “I recently ordered cigars from Holt’s. I live in a couple of different states, so I use a couple different addresses. When I ordered I messed up the delivery address. I combined the address and the wrong zip code. Obviously my error. UPS, naturally confused, returned the order to Holt’s.The tracking said it was being returned. So I called Holt’s customer service. At first they were confused also. But, being the customer oriented organization that they are, said; “not to worry, we will reship and get them to you tomorrow”. I apologize, I did not note the representative’s name that I talked to. She gets 10 stars, on a 1-5 star rating.After that conversation, they called me back and kindly and without judgement, explained that after further analysis, they discovered the address error. Yep, I’m embarrassed, but their approach was non accusatory and they went out of the way to cover for my mistake.”
“Location, selection and employees are excellent. The ONLY downside of this place are some of the prices compared to competition. That said, I'd rather spend a couple extra bucks here than buy elsewhere. If you buy any kind of tobacco more than once, you should be going here.”
“I am a cigar novice that asks a million questions. They've been awesome with answering the questions that I have. They also have a great selection of cigars. Their prices aren't super competitive with some of the deals you can find online, but I don't mind spending a little bit extra to support a local brick & mortar store. I haven't used their nice cigar lounge yet, but the atmosphere in there is always friendly, and it's not usually very crowded when I've been there. 5 stars all day.”
“Great store. Staff spent time helping me find a cigar. Was patient and taught me a few things as I am new to smoking cigars. I sat down in lounge area on a comfy couch and smoked in between shifts. I also won some money on one of their lotto machines. Fun place and environment. Will definitely stop by next time I am in the area!”

“Love this store. Love the giant incense. Still 50¢ea. & they burn for like 3 hours. Always a good selection of bic lighters, all the supplies you could need for a Zippo, nice rolling trays and cigarette cases, and lots of supplies for smoking in public where there's no smoking area: ashtrays on keychains and I like the little clip-ons that kinda look like pens but save a half-smoked cigarette. They're perfect for waiting for a bus or an uber; when it pulls up, you just drop your lit cigarette in it and close the lid and it goes out on its own, no missing your ride while you try to flick the cherry off the cigarette. And no stinking up your bag or pocket or worse yet, the rest of your pack with a half-smoked cigarette. Their cigarette prices were good last time I bought them there, but it's been over a year since I've done that. There's a little bodega nearby that sells them dirt cheap now, so no need to hike all the way out to Rockledge for that. But this place has every smoking related supply you could want. Stuff for cigars and pipes, too, I believe, though I have no use for any of that.”
